Would have helped if I had included the link...DOH! ATB. http://www.shareaction.org/justpay/successes
The Hockings man knows me too well and stops outside my front gate most Sat eves on his rounds where a deal is done for 4 litres of his finest - no walking or chasing of vans for me! I was more meaning ankle socks for the Ladies, Queenie, I do like to see a nice leg 'au naturel' and not clothed in some man-made fabric. And don't get me started on women's shoes, I agree with Gerry, most seem to walk around these days in sandals so thin a paper bag would offer more comfort. Buy her a good pair of trainers. Sadly no chiropodist or foot spa will be able to do a lot for my ankle, think it's a result of being too heavy for too long and spending virtually all of my working life on my feet!! The link below lists some of the Living wage employers, with a further link at the top of the article to everyone who does so, by region. ATB.
Having signed up I now keep getting emails with their latest offers, the last one being a free Sunday night if I book a Saturday night at Premier Inns before next August, which we may make use of it on our next trip to London. ATB.
Stockings???? I'm more of an ankle sock kind of guy!! Do hope your daughter doesn't have what is affecting me at the moment, my left foot doesn't like being stood on for any length of time which is a real pain considering how much has to be done outside at the moment. Nice to see you on here now THT is no more....RIP. ATB.
What a difference a year makes. Any guesses as to where the sp will be in a years time - 300p or 600p?? ATB.
Would rather keep the DRIPS and SCRIPS going for as long as poss, especially for my big holdings in BP and BT, than opt for cash. That way my investment keeps growing even if the sp dips. Mrs B was offered early retirement and a pension at 55 and had to be restrained from biting their arms off, sadly she wasn't there long enough for one of those legendary gold-plated ones, but it pays the bills and takes the pressure off of having to liquidate any of my investments. Not sure about being snatched by an older woman - but it is one of my fantasy's!! Come to think of it I'd be happy to be snatched by any woman, regardless of age - not visiting my area any time soon are you?? Sadly our nearest Waitrose is over 40 miles away, so will be sticking with Tesco for a while yet. ATB.
The reason different rates are quoted is because Santander have just halved their dividend. So a historic yield is based on what has been paid out over the last year, as opposed to what will out in the next year. Also divs have been paid on a SCRIP basis for the last few years, but are now switching to 3 cash divs and 1 SCRIP a year. And if all of that was confusing enough, it also depends on how you hold our shares and how you opt to take your divs as to what, if any, rate of SWT you pay. My shares are held in a SSA and I always take new shares with all of my divs so have avoided the dreaded SWT!! ATB.
If the deal were to go ahead then they would buy your shares from you, but until any formal announcement is made you would not know whether it would be all cash, all Zurich shares or a mixture of the two. As sam says this is only at the early stages yet, if you sell now you may miss out on an extra 30p in a few months or, the deal could not go ahead, the sp could drop back and you may miss out on today's sp. It really depends on what you wanted to achieve with your holding before this potential deal was announced, whether you need the cash now, and what you will do with the cash if you do sell - Decisions, Decisions. ATB.
You really need to speak to your Broker - they are sitting on your money for their own ends - everyone else was paid out in full weeks ago, see my post below from 17/7. I received the cash for my shares on 10/7, and for the Bonus shares on 17/7, and that was from a cheap execution-only broker!! ATB.
Not reinvesting these days, any money that comes our way now is used to fund our retirement - saves me having to chose to sell something or eating into our cash reserves. Should be easier in a couple of months as Mrs B reaches 60 and has a few private pensions that she'll take, a couple are defined benefits and the others we'll take as the best annuity on a single life non-escalating basis that we can find to get the max cash now. I still have a couple of years to go before I need to worry abut what I'm going to do with mine - who knows what the markets or the economic climate will be like by then!! We have 3 Santander123 accounts @ 3%, N'wide at 5% and Tesco @3%, it just gets tedious moving the cash around each month, but it's the only way to get a decent rate these days - roll on a rise in interest rates, mortgages have been far too cheap for far too long. We paid up to 10% back in the 80s but at least you earned a decent wedge on your savings. Rant over, off for an afternoon sleep!! ATB.
My cheque also arrived this morning, no more money off vouchers :-( ATB.
Grayling has it spot on a few posts back, maybe a little profit on the RI but nothing for long term holders. This was over £6 back in '99, which with the 5:1 consolidation would be over £30 today - so speculation around £5 a share means nothing. If it is taken over at this level I will make as much as I did out of THT - **** all - but at least it won't be a loss!! ATB.
I've kept my Merlin, but then you wouldn't have expected otherwise with me would you? Sadly my white knuckle ride days are behind me now as I don't think my back would take too kindly to being thrown around. We used to have annual passes - about £20 of Tesco vouchers - and would go around 75 times a year, the kids loved it, As we were only about 30 mins away from Thorpe Park we could pop down after school for a few wet rides to cool down in the summer. And a visit to the olds up North always took in a day at Alton towers - I really liked the very slow Squirrel Nutkin ride - on the way up and on the way back. Happy days. ATB.
.....and is due to be settled on or before 27 July 2015 for acceptances received by 13 July 2015, and in the case of valid acceptances received after 1.00 p.m. (London time) on 13 July 2015 - but while the Offer remains open for acceptance - within 14 days of such receipt. ATB.
Suggest you change your brokers Robbo, received my cash last Friday and the money for the bonus shares today from X-O. Have you asked them why they are a month slower than everyone else? ATB.
You will find that however you hold your shares - paper or in CREST - you will have to sell them and buy them back inside an ISA, it is not possible to transfer them without any cost. Some platforms allow you to 'Bed and ISA' and only charge one fee, but as you have found it is often cheaper to sell them yourself through a cheap execution only broker and then buy back inside the ISA. I use X-O.co.uk and have always them pretty quick to credit share certs to my trading account, with a flat trade at only £5.95. ATB.
Never been a lover of Belgian choccy, and really can't stand those daft looking stripy Guylian sea shells that seem to do the rounds at Xmas - wtf is that all about??? Will be very interesting to see if the Thornton's taste alters after the take-over, similar to the taste of creme eggs when that production went abroad.
While you were at Lynmouth did you go on the cliff railway - operated by water power - one of my great-grandparents was one of the navvy's that cut it into the hillside, an amazing piece of Victorian engineering. There's a few steep hills around there that still catch unwary drivers out, when it says engage low gear they really mean it. One of the best bits about Ilfracombe is the Hockings Ice Cream van that parks there - we always have a tub in the freezer. ATB.
Likewise, not going to change either of our lives but nice they're paying a div. I prefer it when a company offers a DRIP or SCRIP - a great way to build your holding over time at no extra cost - so hopefully this is something they will offer in the future. Good to see the sp holding up despite the recent falls in the FTSE, hopefully this will bode well when we test 7,000 again. A good company, with good products and great prospects - unless you put stickers on your bike!! ATB.
Sorry Mondo1 but every press article at the time made it very clear that bonus shares were only ever available to customers, and it was clearly explained in the prospectus. If you found out that they were offering bonus shares before you bought, then wherever you saw it would have made the point clear. Rule No 1 of investing is always make sure you fully understand all of the small print, whether buying or selling, that way nothing ever comes as a surprise. ATB.
