BP's probs could be resolved in the next week or so, if it goes well would expect to see it rise to 550 and then consolidate for a while. Since Lord Harris - Chairman and CEO of CPR - bought 50,000 shares 2 months ago. Congrats to me and anyone else who bought in on the back of his purchase. Directors purchases are usually a very good indication of where a company is going. ATB.

The Sunday Mirror's circulation figures will take a huge hit when the Sun comes out next Sunday. It is likely to lose all of the 60% YOY gain, and may even lose a few more. This will not only mean a loss of revenue of the £1 cover price on the extra 660,388 copies, but also a drop in ad revenue as the price they can charge is linked to readership. ATB.

This has been good for me as well. I've been in since the demerger from Hanson in '96, and can remember buying them at 480p in a RI in '02!! The div of 67p was paid Friday. I take mine as new shares but with the sp around £25 i only gain about 20 a year. ATB.

A year ago it may have been in the 80's, but 2 yrs ago it was 150p, 4 years ago it was 300p and 5 years ago it was 500p!! Click on the share charts above and re-draw the graph to 5 years. Looks uncannily like a classic 'dead cat bounce'!! It may be profitable but in an ever decreasing market the profits will be a fraction of their previous levels and the div if it ever comes back will be no more than 1 or 2p. Newspapers are going out of fashion. People want todays news today, by the time it appears the next day in print they will have moved on to the latest trending news story. Soon they will be the preserve of us oldies who dont possess smartphones. The young who are always in a rush to get everything 'now' will de downloading their content on the go with very few being prepared to pay for it. We saw this happen recently with Kodak. At the forefront for a century, even 5 years ago their demise would have been unthinkable, now they are confined to history. ATB.

Today's announcement by Murdoch that the Sun on Sunday will launch very soon will put an enormous dent in the Sunday Mirrors circulation gains. And although the Mirror went backwards less than the Sun or Express, it still lost share in an ever decreasing market. As a long term and long suffering holder here i hope you are correct, but i'm not at all convinced that the future picture is rosy. The sp slipped back into the 40's today. Who knows which way it is headed. ATB.

Mixed bag for TNI. Although the Sunday circulation figures showed a healthy 60% rise YOY, those for the daily editions showed a disappointing 6% fall. Infact every daily newspaper showed a YOY fall except for the newly launche 'i'. Keith Edelman, the former MD of Arsenal FC between 2000 and 2009 and the man who oversaw the building of the Emirates Stadium, joins the board as a non-executive director next week. He is currently the chairman at Beale,and has also held senior roles at Storehouse, Ladbrokes, Carlton Comms and Grand Met. You may well be right, but the sales through supermarkets are going to be at very tight margins. And as they are cutting their own stores in half the chance to make real profits will diminish. They are still seen as a premium brand and as they make very few products that could be seen as a rival to established count lines then they will only be seen as a supplier of boxes of chocs to many. Can't see too many truckers, builders and office workers swapping their Mars bars, Kit Kats and Crunchies for a 200g box of Thorntons Continental. But for anyone who was fortunate enough to have bought around the 10p level then best of luck to you. ATB.

No need to feel sorry for me as overall i'm well up. Bought these back in the 90's and only own 400 so only £500 down on the deal, though have had quite a few divs and money off vouchers from them over the years so mustn't grumble too much. Sales are holding up but by cutting their presence in the High Street and going for supermarket sales they are having to face a cut in profit. Personally i think it is a failing business model along with record stores, butchers, bakers, (candlestick makers?), greengrocers, and many other independant retailers. We all shop out-of-hours in big out-of-town sheds these days - mainly because local councils have made it virtually impossible and very expensive to even get near a High Street these days!! Our purchasing patterns are changing and IMHO Thorntons will struggle to survive. But best of luck to everyone who bought in at or around 10p. But no idea where the sp will go from here. ATB.

Sounds good but i'm fat enough already and more of a milk chocolate fan whereas most of their products are dark!! The job i really want is as a beer taster. Have just bought a share in my local brewery - it's only a 5 min walk away - and am always offered a little tipple whenever i visit but it would be great to be paid for it lol!!
