I should know its my area of work , the system shows all travel , if someone wants to go to say France and quarantine there for 10 days and come in then fine , but all flights from those countrys are monitored.

On top of that there is a thing called stamps in passports which show a traveller history.

My point its about safety first and buying more time , nothing more nothing less , I'm happy the government has reacted quickly with the African countries, so many times in the past the announce the change and give nationals about a weeks notice , you can then guarantee floods of flights from those countrys happen and passenger just come on into the country , seen it many many times.

Doing it this way buys us more time , yes the s.p has reacted and prob over reacted , I'm here for ages anyway , a few pence won't make much of a difference in the long run

Covid has been here for 2 years our right, and up until potentially now there hadn't been a new variant of concern that will evade our vaccines.

I want to be clear that I also believe it will turn out to be nothing , but the government cannot be seen to take that risk especially if it turns out it can evade some of our vaccines.

Can you imagine the public outcry if it turns out to be serious and they didn't act quick enough (again) when they prob have data that we don't see which suggests otherwise.

The government's job is to protect the health and safety of its nationals , putting aside how well they are doing that. Over reacting on a potential new variant which could save plenty of lives is better then not reacting to protect them from story's already in the public domain.

We all saw how quick the Kent variant spread , stopping this new one from entering out shores right now will be the priority , not brexit or channel crossings

Are you suggesting after all the backlash the government got for not acting quick enough in the past they are now over reacting to hide the channel crossing deaths and brexit.

Brexit has been in the news for years we know everything about brexit , there is nothing to hide.
The channel crossing had 27 deaths and has been a problem for years , has been a real issue last 18 months , again there is nothing to hide.

What your effectively saying the government are making a story into the new variant , shutting borders , because they want to hide news we already know.

News is mot priced in , what's priced in was rising covid cases in Europe, Austria forcing the unvaccinated to be vaccinated and potential of other countries doing the same .
For it to be priced in the new variant would of had to been known much earlier then when I done a sarcastic thread on a new super variant.

Personally I dont think the new variant has been priced in yet and based on the news and the way Asia market reacted it may be a rough day ahead.

I believe the drop was caused by Europe's rising cases , Austria lockdown and the way they are forcing the unvaccinated and potentially other European country's following suit. The new variant is pretty new news which is dominating the headlines and market sentiment I believe will be rough today.

Bloodbath I'm not convinced ,cines bounce happining today not convinced either , I would take a day pretty much unscathed, get into the weekend where more research can be done and then passed on to the public.

Clearly my opinion only at the moment. But right now I would take any blue day today right now and then start again Monday.
