These are looking at flow batteries, they are targeting 185MWh of storage by year end 2018:- Anesco is investigating how it could adopt flow batteries into future projects instead of lithium as a response to growing uncertainty around the future of storage de-rating in the capacity market, Clean Energy News can reveal. The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) published a consultation in July outlining proposals to alter the current de-rating status of storage assets participating in the market to reflect discharge periods achievable by the batteries. This would lower the rate from its current 96% to various levels depending of the assets� �energy limited storage�, which in the consultation varied between 30 minutes � assumed to be the usual capability of batteries currently in the capacity market � and four hours to address the potential length of a stress event in the UK. As a result the business case around shorter duration batteries, which are often currently used to bid into the market, will likely be impacted. Speaking at Solar & Storage Live, Anesco�s director of connections Daniel Cohen explained that the potential for this regulatory change has meant that the developer is now seeking out battery technologies with longer discharge duration potential. �We're not just looking at lithium batteries which we use at the moment; we're looking at flow batteries because of [the] capacity market. It's all about how we're going to cope with de-rating so we're looking at batteries that can last longer than lithium to cope with that mechanism and contract,� he said. He later clarified to Clean Energy News that the company was visiting sites in the UK to further understand the technical ability of flow batteries and how Anesco could adapt the product.

All propositions will be on an individual basis, I can only talk for farmer installations that I know a little about, most are installed near farm yards as the power is used during day to cool onions, keep potatoes at certain conditions as this is costly but vital for supplying that crop when required. Almost all farmers, I would imagine, will have the facility to have these stored in or near their yards, finding space should not be a problem as anything that generates an income will be facilitated. Furthermore most yards are more then capable of accommodating such weight and if not they are generally able to facilitate quite cheaply. Another point on that foundation figure, I built a house that would of housed all of those units, certianly didn�t cost me anywhere near that figure and as far as I understand solid base isn�t required. Valid question though, perhaps fire an email off to Joe at redT, see if he can shed any light on that. Finally, there was talk of the electrolyte being installed at basement of buildings with stacks separately housed, quite how that was being touted is something I�ve not given thought, generally if something makes a profit and financially viable it will happen one way or other.

That�s less space then those solar panels will have taken up, there�s also the possibility of sinking these units or the electrolyte tanks, they don�t have to come In storage containers. We have employed specialists who design these things. Why not have solar panels mounted on top of these units? Win win. Here�s something from a couple years back, sure it�s not too dissimilar from what is required today:- However, owing to the fact that large ground mounted solar PV farms require space for other accessories, the total land required for a 1 MW of solar PV power plant will be about 4 acres. The above estimate is however for conventional solar PV power plants � those that are based on crystalline silicon and do not use trackers. A 1 MW of thin film solar plant will require about 30% more area than a similar power plant with crystalline solar modules. So, keep the following in mind as simple thumb rules / benchmarks. Of particular interest are those income streams, done right the income potential here is phenomenal, multiply up 25-30 years worth of sales with a steady 4-6% rolling in will be substantial, if they can generate income from energy trading those figures could be very kind blowing indeed.

He�s not been that active of late anyhow, funny that when he joined it had no impact on share price, leaves all hell let�s loose. Still, I don�t believe he will sell further shares, it could tho make a transaction on some of his wines wind farms much easier for all concerned, this could perhaps be very good new indeed. Either way, an over reaction today from market, we are on cusp of sales that will transform share price.

Sell a hundred million pounds worth of units we could be pulling in twenty million or so in revenues each year over the next twenty year plus period, that's quite astonishing. We could be talking telephone numbers in terms of profits after a few years of sales, irrespective of what profits are made from Gen2, Gen3, Gen4 etc. Sounds like the rental/lease of electrolyte is a done deal moving forward, that's at least a third off the cost of system and going by those maintenance charges we are well ahead of lithium in terms of on-going charges, these machines are really built for life. Well done redT and our Scott of course.

Camco is the golden egg that is really under appreciated here, the contacts they have are really astonishing, world leaders etc and a highly respected outfit. An article earlier in the year had me thinking, whilst I am no expert on energy trading or exactly how that works, the mention of paybacks within a couple years in certain markets is not for the faint hearted however I wonder if we have that expertise onboard we should be able to exploit this for some of our clients, that is surely huge revenues and huge profit margins that people will gladly pay for: - "What we are seeing which is quite exciting is if you put arbitrage into the equation you can reduce payback significantly. The smarter finance groups can get a baseline return of eight years payback, based on reasonable assumptions of grid services and demand use etc, but then put on to manage the asset and can get payback much quicker,� he explained. �So the arbitrage play is where I think storage will play out in the UK and other grid markets. The ones that take the risk will be able to pay back on its own, in certain markets I see one or two years payback on systems through pure arbitrage, but it�s a riskier financial investment.�

Thanks OldFool, the income streams are of extreme interest, I had wondered if this might be an option with the push for IT workers earlier in the year although I had never thought it would be near those % terms someone else has mentioned. Pulling in a steady 4-6% is nice on large volumes, moreso with a profitable Gen3, however add in an additional 20% to that really would be extremely exciting and groundbreaking when compared to what our competitors are doing today. Hopefully those presentation slides will be online soon, they are normally put on the redT website shortly after. Also we have 12 committed sales agents for our product, we are yet to realise exactly who these are however they are expected to make sales and be committed to our product. Wonder if Australian Vanadium are one of these 12, someone has suggested we should hear more on these imminently.

Starting to look really bullish here, get a sales RNS or three this will be really interesting times, we have never looked as good overall as a company today, not only are we making sales but we have a impressive sales pipeline that now has one of the worlds leading sales guys assisting with converting. Furthermore we have news to be confirmed on our third party sales, plus I would expect a few other re-sellers to be confirmed, we know a few of these here that have been active and I suspect we have Australian Vanadium to be linked with us formally at some point in the near future. They have history already of making actual sales, no-doubt with an additional pipeline. Today we are well geared up for mass sales in the near future, the market for energy storage is set for exponential returns in the next few years, we could be leaders in this field, specially when we have likes of E.On, Centrica and many other big names trailing our system. We know we have the cheapest system available and to my knowledge the most efficient, that is a real key issue here. With a team of installers being recruited, plus those third party sellers who will be doing their own installations in key markets, are only being recruited as they must have sales to be announced, else they surely would not be needed. Scott has done a grand job over the years of keeping admin down to a bare minimum. RedT leaders in Flow Machine (battery!) technology, certainly has the ground work in to be so, watch that video on our Centrica project, they have clients for this technology across the globe, not a bad sales agent to have on our books!!

7 x 20ft containers would be over a 2MWh system, I�d expect Gen3 to be more compact then Gen2 so perhaps down to 6 containers. Our largest system is a 60kW/300kWh machine in a 20ft container, 7 of those lined up. They could be stacked in theory saving space.
