Pumped Hydro
Slight problem in hotter climates, take a read here as an example, additionally reservoirs had not been strategically placed by god when forming planet earth, we can discuss another time:-

Drought Reveals Water-Energy Connection, Cutting Californias Hydropower in Half
As reservoirs dry up, the states needs are increasingly being served by natural gas, solar and wind.

Energy storage such as redT is ideal for supplying part of an overall secure power supply, sure pumped hydro and even the odd lithium battery will be used, the industry is that large that just 1% of market share would make this worth billions.
As for hotter climates we already know lithium fails, our solution runs happily at extreme conditions, unlike Hydro also.
As this technology advances footprint will fall, it is in its infancy today, as more money piles in technology advances quickly.
