It's Battery Day22 Sep 2020 10:56
Happy Battery Day everybody!
Watch out for the dry electrode announcement. This could get batts below $100/kWh.
A cheaper\simpler manufacturing process - doesn't use solvents to coat the electrode. Cuts down on defects.
Expected to deliver gains in energy density as well.
Another significant technology is the tabless electrode. The tab connects the rolled up anode\separator\cathode to the cap of the battery. Creates a bottleneck for electrons. Difficult to manufacture.
The new design attaches directly to the exterior giving a greater surface area, reducing ohmic resistance, less heat generation, increases lifespan, helps charging, cheaper, fewer defects.
This combination will put Tesla leaps ahead of the competition.
Looking a little further out, rumor is that Tesla may have acquired a company called SilLion. They have a silicon anode technology (with a Nickel cathode, so don't worry)
