Some very true statements there guys. A couple of areas that need further debate and for REDt some careful positioning. To set the scene in the UK in the short term, less than 10 years, the large coal power stations will be fully decommissioned if you check out http://www.gridwatch.templar.co.uk/ they have a capacity of around 7GW at full tilt. During this period electric cars will be dominant in the UK with a rough estimate will require the same annual GW/H as the cola power stations produced . We are heading towards a serious power generation deficit with a large demand increase i.e the worst scenario to be in. It must be noted that battery technology is NOT a generator it simply holds and releases power for frequency control or demand. In the WPD area where most of the wind and solar is produced the peak generation is produced at the minimum demand time this is where battery technology comes in. My concern is the capacity and footprint size of these units verses the demand. Read this in the context the large coal generation is gone we would need square miles in area to make up the shortfall with battery and I doubt we would have the generation to supply them with the added demand from electric transport. Just a thought !
