Hi 13thmonkey, In places such as Aus agree no problem with space. Doubling the height is not feasible since REDT are using off the shelf containers.

In the UK I foresee the first early generation solar and land based wind farms sites are good pickings for the REDt solution. There is sufficient land to support a REDT solution based om MWH / footprint and generation. The transmission infrastructure is all in place. Check out the WPD load generation profile and they have problems due to peak generation load around midday and problems around the peak time at 6.00PM. Guys some good posts here not just about the electrical technology but the whole life cycle. The other issue concerning the size is the MW Hours this will have a direct effect on size. To state the obvious double the hour maximum discharge and recharge will double the footprint. If the electrical technology is ticking all the boxes then where is the hold up to close out the orders????????????

Guys before we go for world domination lets get real. Redt employs under 100 people with a couple of support companies. The market is still undecided on the storage technology. So talking about GWh schemes are years away. This technology is good for the up to 10MWh range based on not just the vanadium but the whole package.

Alfacomp, the foot print dimensions I quoted was the Toshiba lithium based technology. If a 40MW REDt stacked system with switchgear can be housed in half the area then without doubt this is a huge selling point. The toshiba lithium batteries for this project were circa £21m.

AIMforprofit. yes we are on the same page. I agree with your comments. However I have said it several times on this board the RED technology is limited due to the power storage capacity verses the footprint. Putting aside the power technology the shipping container carrier is not efficient and planning friendly. We previously designed a 49MW facility which occupied a 40 x 60m footprint, this included the switchgear/substation technology. Can someone confirm the footprint that RED would require. I am not sure if you can double stack the units even so how would the substation integrate with the flow technology from a substation layout viewpoint. I see the RED technology for the low single digit MW user. Feel free to prove me wrong. This is still a huge market and easier to get in too.

No a technology type is not specified, that would be too constraining. The contractor must meet the technical specification of the project for load shifting or frequency management.

Alfacomp these tenders are issued under a confidentiality agreement. However I will do some research and check if there is information which can be released in the public domain. Most are left to the provider to ensure the various ratings and performance figures are meet. It's still in its infancy, many of the clients, installers have limited operational running hours to fully stress test reliability and from this produce maintenance programs which all feeds in to final costs.

I work in the energy industry and there are some big storage tenders just arrived based on flow technology. These bids are due for return in the next 6 weeks with an award in less than 3 months. I can only assume the market is about to finally start moving.

Hi Merlottheboy, well a definition of gambling is 'To take a risk in the hope of gaining an advantage or a benefit.' I see that has what we are all doing. I suppose the word hope could be questioned in this case, but after last years share prediction I think it is little more than gambling and most of us lost.
