Interesting that you are considering Portugal for your future residence. My love of Norway is well documented ( the most civilised country on the planet), but, if you require a more temperate climate ( I feel your "broken body" comment), then Portugal is a great choice. Been there a couple of times, and for a combination of climate, social cohesion, equality, and general civility, it's hard to beat.

Only 2 days into the election campaign, and I have already lost the will to live, as I slowly drown in a river of BS (literally and metaphorically) My fault, really, for watching this shi*e. Time to unplug my TV and tune out. I may also have to lock my laptop away in the cupboard, so if you don't hear from me for a while -(stop cheering at the back) you'll know why.

Respect to those who have evacuated this once great country ( like fordm and skindle) - wish I had done the same 20 years ago. Like seeing share price collapses coming, you have also (correctly) seen the demise of this country coming. Unfortunately, my inability to see the imminent collapse of both the IAG share price, and the moral fibre of this country, has cost me dear.

Hoping for a brighter future, but (in reality) not expecting it.

Only just caught your post from yesterday - glad you are happy in your new residence, and an entirely justified move, especially on a day like today, when (only a few weeks away from the summer equinox) it has rained all day. I would like to follow you, but not sure a rebellious reprobate such as myself would be welcome there (or anywhere). Anyway, can't stray too far from Beachy Head, as that will be my chosen exit point when the time comes. I trust your overseas status won't affect your ability to adjudicate over the POTY awards

Not surprised that the markets are reacting badly, but we all knew that this day was coming- it's just come a little earlier than most expected, but that's probably no bad thing. A bit like having a tooth extraction - nobody looks forward to it, but if it has to be done, it's best to just get it over with, buy another toothbrush, and move on.

As for a hung parliament - personally I'd like to see half of them hung, but that's just me. Anyway, that comment probably means I will be 'cancelled' by LSE again tonight. I do believe that will be three nights in a row, which must be some kind of record.

Woke up today with a somewhat sore head, and a vague notion that I may have come on this forum and embarrassed myself (again), so logged back in to apologise. Turns out I have just sparked an interesting debate, so maybe no apology necessary. Some good posts from other folk, notably fordm, who at some point is definitely due a lifetime POTY award. When I take into account how much I had drunk yesterday, I am impressed with how lucid I was. Not that I advocate boozing.

Anyway, suffice to say that I think this country has multiple serious issues, and appears to be n an inexorable downhill trajectory ( possibly economically, but (more importantly, socially and morally). As somebody far better educated than me said, "You can't eat GDP". What sort of country do you want to live in?

As I alluded to last night, this is still a great country if you are loaded. Chuck me 2 or 3 million quid, and I can retire to rural Sussex, and spend my days getting lashed in beautiful country pubs, and holidaying in the Bahamas. Sorted. Unfortunately, the reality for most of us is very different - and I for one find huge parts of the country are basically no-go zones.

Anyway, I am in danger of repeating last night's drivelling nonsense (I blame the Smirnoff) so I will now retire to my boudoir. Hoping for a better week with the share price next week. Then again, if I had a fiver for every time I have said that, I wouldn't have to mess around with shares - I would be retired to a beach in the Bahamas.

food banks, child poverty, extreme inequality, homelessness, depravation, depression, misery, social unrest, rampant crime, broken criminal justice system, no control of borders /immigration (except of course. having vowed to reduce immigration to the tens of thousands, last year it was 750,00 - that's not a mistake, that's the policy), broken roads, polluted rivers, massive debt, broken health service, corrupt further education system, rampant corporate greed, corruption, self-serving, entitled, greedy, selfish, arrogant political class. i'm only just warming up. with an election coming up, if anybody from the current regime stops me in the street to ask for my vote, i will probably headbutt them. then again, the other lot aren't much better - you basically have a choice between an oily little t*at who cant even buy trousers that fit him, and someone who asks an advisor every day what his opinion should be. as for the usa - you have tens of thousands of brilliant people, who lead the world in every field, but you have a choice between biden and trump . seriously? seriously? quite bizarre.

meanwhile, the world burns, and the nutters in iran/china/russia etc grow stronger, while the west debates whether a man can have a vagina, or a woman can have a *****.

time was when the phrase "the world has gone mad" was nothing more than an expression of frustration. now it's a scientific fact.

PS - what a sh**e day. Down 10 pence here in a couple of days, and EZJ lower now than it was a few weeks back, when it looked like the Middle East was about to blow up. Go figure. Still- at least I had a bit of dry powder to top up both here and EZJ earlier. Will ditch those for a smallish profit when I can, but still holding longer-term for £2 here, and £6 at EZJ.

A) It's surprising how quickly this good boy can shoot down.

Conger2 - your assessment of the dilution to the share price due to the RI is spot on. I have seen multiple people here fail to grasp what should be a fairly simple concept. "Oil" being the worst (best?) example. It's truly astonishing how dim some people are - you have to wonder how they hold down a job, pay their bills, and manage to walk upright and do their own shoelaces up. That said, I do occasionally have problems with my own shoelaces, although that is (I hope) due to consumption the night before, as opposed to abject stupidity. I have switched to velcro to alleviate any issues/confusion.

Dave - your posts about GT are simultaneously admirable, slightly worrying, and very funny - your desire for her seems to parallel my desire for KM. I wish us both well.

Tricky - same as it ever was. I have been to Russia about 5 times, and liked it a lot, and found the people fascinating. It's like any country, one needs to differentiate between the government/ruling class, and the regular folk. Much like the UK - the ruling class are clearly a bunch of ******* *******, entitled, corrupt ***** (those are my asterisks, just for the record), but once you get beyond that, you will find many thoroughly decent people. Hopefully that includes me (although my ex-girlfriend may disagree).

Maybeoneday it would appear that we are on the same page.

Prior to the deadliest pandemic in history (aka. a nasty flu, dangerous to vulnerable groups, but of little or no consequence to 98% of the population), the market cap. here was about £12.5 billion. Today it's about £9 billion. The debt (thanks to the lockdowns) may be higher, but profits have been increased, partly thanks to the cost-cutting during covid, and also to the rise in ticket prices. Then, of course, there is the volatile geo-political situation, which has an impact (obvs.).

Hence it is quite a tricky call ( if it wasn't, we would all be rich), but talk of £4/£5 here is utter madness (in the short term at least). I do think that £2.00 - £2.30 is realistic in the next 6 months or so, but given the global political volatility, £1.40 is also possible. Such is the joy of investing.

Please don't have a pop at me, I am a

long time investor here, and would be delighted to be proved wrong and see the price surge to £3, but I just can't see it.

Anyway, having just returned from 3 hours in the pub, I am just amazed that I can still construct a grammatically correct sentence.

..... more like the teacups today - which after the shenanigans earlier in the week, is probably no bad thing. At least we seem to have settled at a higher support level than previously, so hopefully creep up steadily from here. EZJ are up 3 times as much as us as today, so hopefully when they put their figures out next week, we can reciprocate.

Anyway, the sun is out, there is (miraculously) some money in my wallet, and life (as I am becoming increasingly aware) is short. Hence I am, somewhat predictably, off to the boozer, to put the world right, talk a lot of bo***cks, and admire the pretty ladies in their summer frocks; its the British way, and what pubs were invented for.
