As for him needing medical help, I suspect he needs an emergency removal of a severely bloated ego, plus some electro-shock therapy to help treat what is clearly an advanced case of extreme toxic narcissism. Unfortunately, like a patient with multiple organ failure, I fear that it is too late, and like a horse with a broken leg, there is only one course of treatment left.

2008 Financial crash/Scottish referendum /Brexit/Covid/Ukraine/Gaza/Iran. Not to mention the political instability in the UK. One crisis after another. Makes one think - what is the actual norm? Chaos? Is the latest crisis the aberration, or the new normal? It's all a game to the Johnson's/Trumps of this of this world. For me and you it's called life.

Look at the situation in the UK now. The Westminster bubble is the only part of the UK economy that is thriving. Politicians/lawyers/spin doctors/marketing managers/media stars/news presenters /PR people- everybody gets paid. Meanwhile, the rest of us try to get on with our lives. And they wonder why we hate them.

Also, I saw a clip earlier where on his private plane, Trump was being interviewed, and casually insulted one of the media, calling him a fraud. It's called bullying. When will someone have the balls to turnaround, and say to him "I may be a fraud, but you are a fat, arrogant, obnoxious, greedy, selfish, sociopathic, narcissistic, egotistical, megalomaniac c**t. And a fraud. Trump can pitch, but he can't catch. Typical bully. And this is the alleged "leader of the free world". Seriously?

All very depressing.With Trump/Xi/Putin/Jong-Un in charge, the world is truly F***ed.

He seemed to think that his Iranian excursion would barely be much more difficult than his Venezuelan adventure.According to Trump, this war has either been "won", or virtually over, since week 2: we are now in week 11, with no realistic end in sight, and with the added complication of the Straits of Hormuz, and a subsequent energy price crisis, with all the (global) economic,social, and political problems that comes with that.

Who could possibly have thought that starting a war in the Middle East might bring unforeseen events , complications, and dangers? Well, anybody with an IQ over about 20, or whose vision isn't clouded by arrogance, narcissism, greed and machismo.

Apparently, Iran was 2 weeks away from having a nuclear weapon, despite the fact that he claimed their facilities had been "obliterated" just last year. And he also claimed that unless he had intervened,Iran would have launched a nuclear attack, and Israel, large parts of the Middle East, and Israel, and Europe, plus America ,would have been wiped out. He also said without his intervention, those children with him would be dead. That was in-between him bragging how many wars he had stopped, and how nobody else had ever stopped a war before. Mad doesn't even get close.He also bragged about getting given the Nobel Prize by the official recipient of the award, because he was more deserving. Have you seen "Gladiator"- where the emperor is clearly bonkers? Nuff said.

The world is current;y at the mercy of what is effectively a Bond villain - an out of control lunatic who only thinks of himself. Unfortunately, it may take a few years until people, with hindsight, see Trump for the , megalomaniac he is. Who knows, he may be seen as the titular head of the decline of the dominance of the USA, as Caesar was with Rome.

Anyway, I wish i shared the optimism of some here in regards to a resolution to the current conflict. Dealing with Tehran is difficult - there are so many factions, that the right hand doesn't know what the left is doing. of course, with Trump, the right hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing.

Bombing clearly doesn't work, and economically, Iran has the upper hand. The leaders in Tehran don't give a f**k about sanctions, or blockades - they have already stashed their cash away, so any economic depravation won't remotely affect them, and they certainly don't care about the effects on the wider population.

i'm in quite deep here,and currently underwater, so I would love a swift resolution. unfortunately, I just can't see it.

Mike - I usually agree with you, and even if I don't, I appreciate your balanced tone and perspective. However, this time I have to take umbrage. So now the uranium is the point of the war? I thought it was regime change. Or liberating the oppressed Iranian population? Then again, the objectives change dependent on Trumps mood. As for waiting out the blockade taking "2-4 weeks", I think that is wildly optimistic.

The simple fact is, there was no problem with the SOH prior to this illegal war. This is just a vanity/ machismo project, with the added bonus of oil/$. Which is the only currency he recognises.

You cannot bomb your way to control of the SOH. It's just not possible.

Anyway, despite my copious spending, and generous tips, I have yet to lure the voluptuous barmaid in my local into my boudoir. So expecting me to sort out the Middle East is a little optimistic.

Anon3 - I completely agree with your sentiments around the nuclear issue. It would be nice if nobody had them, but I can't say I blame Iran for wanting them as a deterrent, possibly more now than ever, given recent events. Never believed the notion that they would somehow launch a pre-emptive strike against Israel or the USA. And while in an ideal world I would prefer Tehran to not have a nuclear device, I would also prefer that a megalomaniac like Trump is not allowed within 1000 miles of the nuclear button.

In the short term, still struggling to see a way out of the current mess. A military war has morphed into an economic war, and I can't share the optimism of some who think this will be resolved swiftly. Can't imagine the mullahs in Tehran are overly bothered about economic consequences. I read a piece the other day saying how their pain threshold is far higher than their opponents; I agree. For them it's an existential matter.

Anyway, Donald's little "excursion" is now 2 months old, despite him claiming it was "pretty much over" after about 1 week. Putin thought Ukraine would be sorted in weeks: It is now in its' fifth year. Hope this doesn't go the same way.

Here's hoping my pessimism is misplaced.

Leaving aside the fact that it is impossible to believe one word Trump says, how likely is it that Iranian leaders would say their country is in "a state of collapse", whether it's true or not?

Fordm - why would the Iranians not want to build up their stock of weapons, or develop weapons/

nuclear devices? They might want to protect themselves against a possible attack.
