Looks like we are headed for a finish of roughly 169 - up about 7p on the week. Given what a torrid week it has been, I'll take that - on Tuesday i thought we were heading back into the 140's. Looks like (for now) both Iran and Israel are declaring a draw, and spinning it as a victory in their respective countries. Lord knows what will happen in the longer term - the whole area is a tinderbox (for you young ones, that has nothing to do with online dating). Hopefully things will calm down long enough for us to return to the 180''s, at which point many people here (including myself) will be tempted to at least partially sell up, before the next crisis hits - with this share we all know the next potential disaster is never far away.
Anyway, I am now heading off for my own personal "de-escalation" - a.k.a. going to the pub. Not a Dom Perignon week, but as we were staring down the barrel a couple of days ago, I think a couple of Moretti's and some chilli nuts are well deserved. Let's see what next week brings. Have a nice weekend, and if you can't be good, don't get caught!
Smartpee - correct. Such a good day yesterday, and now this. I should have known better really, hoping for 2 consecutive good days; whatever was I thinking! I thought Benny wotsisname had said no action until after Passover. Can't believe a politician has told a lie - thank God our own politicians aren't like that.
08;23 - is it too early for a drink?
nuff respect to ezj for giving us a big leg up. i can see a strategy/system developing for me here. ezj results coming - sell there and buy here. iag results coming - sell here and buy there. rinse and repeat.
before long i will have earned enough to retire, and live the life i desire, and was designed for. namely, sitting on a beach quaffing chilled ****tails, while a couple of lissom young beauties rub suntan lotion onto me, and generally cater to all my requitements.
sorted.
Hi Skindle - amazing isn't it? Hope you are well.
Retirement - I know exactly how you feel, and it's what is worrying me. With covid, I thought "this will soon pass". Look how that turned out. Then there was the threat of a Russian invasion, but I thought it wouldn't come to that. Look how that turned out.
And now this. Cameron/Sunak/Biden etc. etc. can try and talk Israel down all they like, but I would hardly call what they have done in Gaza as "de-escalating". Netanyahu is spoiling for a fight, and even if you can find reasons for justifying that, for the rest of us, that could have catastrophic consequences. As I have commented on before, the last few years have made me extremely twitchy when it comes to investing, and this situation isn't helping that. I hope things won't play out badly (obvs.), but as my friend once said, "hope is not a strategy".
Wonder where we will be in 3 or 4 weeks time.
PS. - The never-ending sequence of crises here is barely believable - we are like some punch drunk boxer, just staggering from one brutal uppercut to the next.
Have a nice day!!
EZJ update tomorrow, so we'll see how that goes, as it will (to some degree) affect how the price here fares. That said, the main thing now (obvs) is the timing and manner of Israeli retaliation against Iran, and any escalation.
Watched a brilliant climbing documentary film the other day ("Free Solo") about the rope-less ascent of a vertiginous rock face (3000 ft.) in Yosemite. Watching that guy clinging to the side of a mountain by his fingertips reminded me of what it's like to be an investor here. Well, sort of.
Darren - not sure if that was aimed at me, but saying it's been a "s**t week" ( I put the asterisks in myself) is pretty innocuous. If you are going to be offended by that, you are in for a rough time.
PS - I get offended by people who can't spell simple words correctly. It's "disgusting" with a "g", not discusting.
.... IAG hit 180, and EZJ 590 - things were looking rosy. Was that really only a week ago? Seems about 2 years. What a s**t week (again) - and things may still get much worse when Israel retaliates, as it surely will.
Expected a sizeable drop this morning, so (like others here) I am somewhat mystified, and relieved. However, this story isn't over yet - Israel's retaliation is definitely more when than if, so I am ditching a few (across the board) just to reduce my exposure to future shocks, which seem to hit this sector on a remarkably regular basis.
Still worrying times.
Very true. What a turbulent week its been - in the last 2 days alone we have seen 180 and 167. Unfortunately we are set to end the week closer to the latter than the former. The Iran/Israel/USA situation is just the latest cloud on the horizon. There's always something.
On the bright side, we are still comfortably ahead of where we were a few weeks back.
