Just to add that they paid £940m for a 17.9% stake in ITV (that’s big - and well above the 10% Liberty holds today).

940m / 0.179 means the purchase was at a market cap of £5.2 billion which divided by the 3.758b shares in issue today is equivalent to a share price of about £1.40, which makes the current 81p look very attractive.

So what? The Murdochs have no interest or history with ITV right? Wrong and it’s a lot.

In 2006, BSkyB, chaired by James Murdoch, acquired a 17.9% stake in ITV for around £940 million, largely to block a takeover bid by Virgin Media.

The deal raised serious competition concerns. In December 2007, the UK’s Competition Commission forced BSkyB to reduce its stake to below 7.5%.

The rest is history.

And here we are today, this time with Lachlan Murdoch and Fox Corp looking for media M&A, looking for content and fully aware what ITV Studios has become today - and maybe even still angry about the forced sale.

Closed today at almost 81p.

Oh.

Well that doesn’t help the haters does it?

Maybe it will dip again tomorrow, or next week, maybe 75p next time. Who knows.

But look at the volume. Look at the strength when it reverses.

Look at your expected future dividends which are unaffected by the intraday rollercoaster.

Listen to the crap, or open your eyes and embrace the opportunity the market is giving you.

ITVX has already paid for itself, Studios external sales are booming, ITV is doubling down on cost savings, and they’re actively reshaping the portfolio with acquisitions and digital ventures.

I’m looking forward to ITV finally breaking 84p resistance decisively - after a lot of base forming with higher highs and higher lows since around May. There appears to be an uptrend structure developing - anyone short should take a good look at the charts before they get a hard lesson! Trying to maintain negativity via this tiny forum will not make any difference to the share price, it’s just a waste of time.

I’m also looking forward to the continued high dividend yield crediting my account (and debiting shorters accounts, thanks).

Your post is simply a statement about timing, not about the future potential of ITV.

Anyone can pick a period when any share does badly, for example:

Apple’s worst drawdown: –82% over ~5 years (2000–2005).

Amazon’s worst drawdown: –95% over ~10 years (1999–2009).

This doesn’t mean they are uninvestible now.

Same thing goes for ITV. Sure there is a bad period. But that’s the past. It’s time to move on.

And conversely:

In 2013, ITV delivered an +84.41% return.

The next strongest was in 2012, with a +54.37% return.

Smart investors are looking forwards, not always looking backwards.

If people could peel their eyes away from here for a few minutes and peruse a 5 minute chart.

You will see that on multiple occasions recently the exact same trading patter. Is occurring. A spike at open, drifts off midday then a spike at close.

It’s happening right now in fact. Go look!

Buyers are ordering at open.

Market makers are pushing down intraday to encourage shorter and mop up sellers then the day closes at or near high.

If you have not noticed this pattern you should be very careful with your timing.

This is so bizarre I have to comment. Tom you must be blind from years of pointless posting - the things you say ITV should have done are exactly the things they HAVE done! FFS.

Grow the studios.

ITV Studios’ three most recent confirmed acquisitions are: a majority stake in Spanish scripted producer Plano a Plano (February 2025), UK and Belgian scripted duo Eagle Eye Drama and Happy Duck Films (October 2024), and Sherlock producer Hartswood Films (July 2024). There are many many more. Always growing.

ITV has made content deals with other networks such as Disney most recently, and also global distribution partnerships with Netflix (e.g. Bodyguard), co-productions with the BBC (Line of Duty via World Productions), scripted content deals with Apple TV+ and Amazon (Hijack, Wilderness), and licensing agreements with platforms like BritBox, Hulu, PBS Masterpiece, and France Télévisions.

Make content to order for the big players.
