RE: Netherlands set to relax strict lockdown from Saturday14 Jan 2022 10:38
"Was your crystal ball able to pre warn/inform you of the less dangerous latest strain, (Omicron)?"
Errr, not my crystal ball, but the information that came out of SA which was a couple of weeks ahead of everywhere else. Indeed, day one that omicron was reported (back then called Nu), there was explicit accompanying statements saying this was much milder than delta. And as the next couple of weeks went by and it was given it's official title, the same information was being repeated, very mild and equivalent to flu. As the actual situation in SA showed, this was not putting pressure on health care systems and wasn't going to and all the northern hemisphere rhetoric was simply so called experts trying to big up omicron to avoid what was rapidly becoming a significant loss of face as December marched on. The expert community has been busted over this.
And what was the real true extent of the overwhelming of health services. The UK never used the Nightingale hospitals not the recent emergency field hospitals. The US never used it's emergency capacity. In fact, the only system that nearly collapsed was Italy right at the very, very start of the pandemic and there may be local factors regarding the manner of their health system that explains that. We will see when the various enquiries around the world are collated.
If you has followed this line of chat from November you would have known many on here were openly being able to say there was no need for the restrictions and lockdowns based on the information from SA as far back as late November.
