Based on available data for BT Group plc (LSE: BT.A), a £1,000 investment 10 years ago (mid-October 2015) with dividends reinvested would have a total nominal value of approximately £621 as of October 17, 2025. This represents a total return of -37.9% over the period (or an annualised return of about -4.5%). Amazing how you continue to buck the trend with BT. Is the same true with your other major investments - Lloyds and Vodafone?

Your faith in BT, like mine, was misplaced. Why not admit it? I don't understand your logic. You say exchange closure will be a money saver. Yes. But not until 2031 at the earliest. That's 6 years away. At this rate of line losses, BT will be in even heavier debt by then. This is why a bid and a sell off of Openreach are so urgent. Futures mean nothing until they become reality.

When you get the deputy CEO of Openreach openly announcing that they don't know when the rot will stop, BT is looking at a full-blown disaster. All retail investors can hope for now is a bid and fast hiving off of Openreach. No mystical futures, like the closure of telephone exchanges and the removal l of copper cable from the ground, will protect the company now, much as some would like to think it will. To paraphrase Roy Orbison: "Setting stars when they die leave their message to the sky. Your shareholders don't love you anymore. It's over. It's over. It's over." Question. What do you sell when you've sold most of the family silver? Answer : Openreach.

With respect to you, you've been praising BT for years, year-in, year-out. It's always futures. Never now. I've been predicting the opposite, year-in, year-out. We'll soon see who is correct. A bid won't make BT weaker. It will release massive shareholder value, and create a new and vibrant networking reality for the UK. I believe the next budget will ensure the detritus hits the fan, at which point DT will step in and be the kingmaker for Mittal Bros. Best Christmas present for all of us in my view.

While you guys are busy insulting Aus3009 about his mobile network knowledge, don't forget another challenge to UK fixed and mobile networks - Starlink. Forget the argument about low-level satellites being unreliable and dropping down to earth. Must already has thousands of them up there, with thousands more to follow over the next couple of years. When one buns out, two more are already waiting to replace it, with no interruption to service.

Starlink aims to deliver gigabit internet speeds globally by late 2026, as well as much faster upload speeds. There are additional plans to improve its direct-to-cellphone service, potentially supporting global 5G coverage to over 1 billion users.

Everything considered, Starlink is set to rival terrestrial broadband networks everywhere, including here in Blighty (unless we achieve the PM's apparent objective of being governed by Chinese Communist Party), while extending high-speed internet to even the most remote corners of the planet (e.g. beyond Hadrian's Wall).

You know I hate to agree with the baying voices. But they are right about mobile. It's the quality of the viewing experience - on a TV or desktop or projector, compared with a mobile or laptop. It's not the same. I personally use a lot of bandwidth - security cameras, TVs, laptop, desktop, Bose speakers. With 6k replacing 4k and upwards after that, everyone's bandwidth requirement are going to increase 80Meg is nothing. IoT is going to take off, robots at home, immersive entertainment/gaming, AI, new apps coming through all the time. Never mind the poor Aus. Let them eat cake!

It's all smoke and mirrors. People need a lot faster broadband than is currently available over mobile. I know from my time in the security services (when we had them, that is) that there's bluff, double bluff, and even triple bluff going on here. The Altnets are going bust. No doubt about that. They won't be able to sustain their cheap, short term deals. The only way they'll survive is to consolidate. BT will win out, as long as they are allowed to release shareholder value (i.e. Openreach). I believe that time is drawing ever closer.

See a woman has popped up as Deputy CEO of Openreach, Kate Milligan. Hopefully she's not there due to the business-castrating DEI policy instigated by her boss Allison Kirkby.

Sources inform me that Mittal Bros are busy stamping on this DEI nonsense throughout the company, a la Donald Trump. Not before time. Appointments in any organisation should be made on merit and merit alone. But globalists like Kirkby continue to rebel. Which is why her demise - among many other reasons - is imminent, in my opinion.

P.S. Kirkby hasn't got a great record in the appointments space. Last year, she appointed a strategy guy from the States who fell asleep at meetings. Boing. Boing. Another £1m down the drain. Thankfully, the head strategy guy from DT is now in place, courtesy of Mittal Bros, signalling a joint bid from them and DT.

Funny how BT always seems to be relying/hoping that someone else will fail so it can succeed. Now it's the bankers. Just the other week, it was the Altnets. Similar with great new technology. Yes, it's always coming. But 5 years hence. 10 years ago, it was 5 years hence! Far too much kude kakhulu (Zulu for far away) for me. Something needs to happen soon. Not something. A bid, followed by the swift exit of the current woefully inadequate BoD - apart from Mittal Bros. Then, the complete de-coupling of Openreach and its workforce - to be owned and run going forward (within the next 2 years) as a consortium of major infrastructure builders. Phew what a relief. We'll be rid of those troublesome engineers and their pensions at long last.

An uplifting experience

The two lifts in the Tower are amongst the fastest in Europe. They travel at an incredible 6 metres a second and take just over 30 seconds to whizz you to the top.

During the first year the Tower was open to the public - from May 19, 1966, to May 19, 1967 - these lifts travelled an incredible 70,000 kilometres between them, carrying a total of 1.5 million visitors; 105,000 of whom dined in the

revolving restaurant 158 metres above London.

The fare for everyone, whether you were eating or not, was 4 shillings (20p) and half-price for children.

Would like to blame everyone but the true culprits for BT's woes - the press and pundits mostly. The true culprits are on the BoD, in tandem with Ofcom and governments of all colours. However, there is no doubt in my mind that the current parlous state of affairs has been exacerbated by the weak, DEI-led leadership of the current CEO, Allison Kirkby. Hopefully, it won't be long now before she and her equally lacklustre, head-nodding peers are removed from office by our saviours - the Mittal Brothers. Bring it on, boys. Swaminarayan.
