PPS Nearly 8,500 trades on the UK SE today - huge number although nothing particularly large until the “settling up”, as usual.

PS I see Carnival have just confirmed orders for two ships to be delivered in 2030 and 2032 for AIDA, from the Fincanteri yard.

I agree Topo about the recovery. I was just interested to know if anyone had heard anything about how these tariffs might work. If the ships, as they do, stock up in different ports outside the US, how could any tariff be applied? The nearest I can get to this at the moment is the IVA Spain charges, mainly on alcohol but maybe in the on board shops, too, when a ship is in their territorial waters. Must rely, to some extent on the honest of the ship’s officers and possibly som tech whizzo stuff.

Anyway, breathing a little easier now, like many, I suspect!

Our experience of Iona was good, too. We love Arcadia, three weeks starting on Easter Sunday, and will be trying Arvia on 8th June. Hope things improve by then. I agree about P & O’s going for new markets - maybe it’s what comes of having a 12 year-old in charge 😂. IWH did they not have Mr Musk’s Wi-Fi?

One reason Saga is expensive is that it’s All Inclusive, I think? K, you do seem to get a number of miseries on any cruise but you can avoid them with care.

I meant to say that only stuff imported into a country gets a tariff applied.

The AI answer is interesting but I think we need to remember that tariffs can only apply to stuff (sorry for the technical jargon) that is imported. Materials bought abroad and consumed before the ship returns to a port cannot face this surcharge, surely?

Although we both wear H/a’s, they are over the ear with the little, almost invisible wire - YES! we have been to that well-known spectacle shop - and we are not totally deaf so would hear P/A announcements, I hope!

Some years back we had similar on Arcadia - two different causes on the same night - best to get it over with, perhaps!? Anyway, I mention it only because she is Victoria’s twin, originally destined for Cunard but declined by Carnival and went to P&O who were then bought by…..Carnival!

PS What’s the advantage of booking through a USA agent?

Looking at the list YR, why would you let anyone from quite a number of these countries on board one of your ships? A lot of the countries won’t let their residents travel, anyway, for fear of defection.

Does sound to me like rather a lot of noise. But I agree that it isolates America and (some) Americans.
