RE: Asos and Boohoo fail to update investors on festive trading19 Jan 2024 10:23
Hexam you already know my view on not releasing a trading statement so I won't go there again!
However, the move to online is key to the success of the Boo group going forward as Boo does largely follow the overall trend line.
As a simple comparison, lets assume Boo revenue this year lands at c£1.55bn. That is about a 25% rise on precovid revenue, which equates broadly to the overall increase in online share per the ONS stats.
Boo' revenue went up (and actually over performed) against the COVID bubble, so it natural that it has fallen back, in my mind atleast.
My overall take is that over the past three years Boo revenue has grown to where it would naturally now be if COVID hadn't happened, we haven't spectacularly outperformed, not have we disastrously underperformed.
I think they have got the short term pricing strategy a little wrong, it remains to be seen how that plays out in the next couple of years.
But I can't understand how anybody can't see that the trend to online isn't important to Boo. Even an average performer will benefit from it and I don't believe Boo will be average in the medium term
