Sell signal on 23rd no doubt helped along by the Vulpes sells and as you say, it's just the way it is. Nobody here has any problem with top slicing, taking a bit of profit, de-risking or selling completely. Good on those who achieve this without resorting to unfounded hype or bashing.

hasiba, - I wouldn't call you impatient, I think you know exactly what you're doing - good luck with it but do try to stick to facts.

On a completely different note, interesting that CEPI have just tweeted out this and wonder whether they're about to announce recipients. I'm not suggesting any connection to Scancell but it's good to see recognition of the need and the funding for second gen vaccines.

Hang on a minute, we were discussing Hasiba's 19.23 in which he/she stated that alarm bells would ring if Scancell attempted to run a phase I Covidity trial themselves. Moreover, he claimed that Redmile would not have invested in Scancell without that comfort blanket. That couldn't be more wide of the mark and is the complete antithesis of Redmile's investment strategy.

We have discussed many times the absolute need for Scancell to partner for phase II but I ask again, how could anyone invest in a bio if you didn't think they could run a phase I trial? Chelsea, you say you understand Hasiba's view, perhaps you could explain and are alarm bells ringing for you right now, will you be selling when Scancell confirm that they're running a phase I?

You may be right, I may well be emotionally attached to SCLP, I'm more than happy to admit that I would love to see the whole SCLP team and true homegrown UK innovation succeed. Having said that, I have been investing in a wide range of bios for years and I like to think that helps me to remain relatively objective and very much adds to the overall level of knowledge.

I fear that you may well be selling your holdings here as CH clearly stated that Scancell intend to run a phase I study. If they partner now then any deal is going to reflect the fact that SN15 is untested in humans, if they run a quick phase I then the valuation will be adjusted accordingly. Clearly it's in the best interest of shareholders to optimise the valuation - although I can see why short term traders would like a quick deal. Each to their own but it's unfathomable to me why anybody could or would invest in a bio if they didn't believe they could run a simple phase I study and as I say, you can be sure Redmile certainly wouldn't have.

Agreed and as SK mentioned previously, it may well be that they are in discussions already and any deal will be conditional on a successful phase I. It's when it comes to scaling up for large randomised studies that SN15 needs and will stand the best chance of success in the hands of a large pharma.

If Redmile were so unsure of Scancell's ability to run a simple phase I safety study that they'd want to see a partner first then they absolutely wouldn't have invested here in the first place. In fact nobody in their right minds would invest in a bio that couldn't execute a phase I study. If we want to talk about commercial reality, it's that Redmile are here to see value added and you don't do that by licensing cheaply at the preclinical stage.

'Anecdotal reports that people with “long Covid” are making dramatic recoveries after being vaccinated are intriguing and should be followed up with formal studies, scientists said yesterday.

Most people recover from Covid-19 quickly but official figures show that one in ten who test positive still have at least one symptom, such as fatigue or headaches, three months later.

Some of these “long-hauler” patients are reporting improvements soon after vaccination, doctors say. “This is a very interesting and potentially important observation,” Charles Bangham, who holds the chair in immunology at Imperial College London, said. “At present these are just anecdotes, and systematic studies would be needed, but anecdotes can sometimes point the way to important discoveries.”'

As I made absolutely clear last night - the evidence is anecdotal, mainly from doctors treating patients with long covid who have seen significant improvements in their condition following vaccination. There are several threads on twitter - have a look at Prof. Iwasaki and you might find a link there as I know she's commented on the matter. I would have provided the link for you but ............

You may be right, but not necessarily - if you work out timescales and assume the 'within weeks' comment was correct then then that takes us to maybe April for the start of the trial. Then you have to recruit and give two doses to X number of people - we don't know the dosing interval, for all we know it could be 4 weeks or it could be 12, but you can see the treatment period is stretched by the two dose regime. Then add on a follow-up period for all patients before they close the trial and can start the process of data collection, validation and analysis. I can easily see how a trial that starts in April might not fully report results until Q4.

Having said all of that, there will be plenty of opportunities for news along the way:-

As it's an open label, single arm study, there may well be clinical data along the way. The big question is whether or not it will be good enough to attract that big pharma partner as SK has suggested.

I have no idea why you were unable to unearth anything via google - there has been a great deal of coverage over the last week or so suggesting that people who have already caught Covid may only need one vaccine jab (rather than prime/boost regime).

I know that you have previously told me that I'm not worthy of your attention, but I have put some links below that may be of help. If I'm still not worthy then feel free to ignore:)

The advice both in the UK and the US currently remains that if you have already caught Covid you definitely should still be vaccinated - I suspect larger studies will be needed before they drop the booster jab for this group.

It's happening all the time but there is a debate on whether or not they need the second booster jab as the first dose is in effect boosting the immune response from catching the virus itself - if that makes sense.

Yes, people who have caught and suffered from Covid and gone on to develop long covid. Current estimates suggest around 10% of patients end up with long covid, worth reading up on it if you haven't already. The focus is quite rightly on preventing people from being hospitalised and dying from covid but there's this build up of patients who may not have had severe covid to begin with but end up with this debilitating long term disease. Many can't work for months and months and it affects the young too. I think we're going to see a greater and greater focus on its impact and if you think that over 100m people have now had covid, the numbers of patients and the burden on healthcare systems and economies is significant.

Moving away from tonight's presentation for a moment, it seems that sufferers of long covid are seeing dramatic improvements in their condition following vaccination. It's all anecdotal at this stage of course and needs to be confirmed in trials, but the theory is that T cells generated by the immune response to the vaccine are going in and clearing a reservoir of virus infected cells in these patients. If true, this is fantastic news for patients and healthcare systems alike. Of course it also highlights the need for vaccines that are capable of generating potent T cell responses :)
