Crumbs, I'd be astonished if they allowed patients suffering with RA to enter a Moditope trial. I think the hope/theory is that it will be safe for these patients but that would have to be established via confirmatory trials at some future date. In the meantime I don't think they would risk the potential to distort results by accepting any patients suffering from any autoimmune disease into any immunotherapy trial.

This paper was originally published back in February and has been discussed here before. Not sure why Scancell have only just added it to their website, nevertheless it's a good reminder that this area really is uncharted territory and Scancell's research is adding to understanding.

This research is all about how citrullinated peptides are presented to the immune system. Much work has previously been done looking at citrullination and autoimmune diseases and in particular rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Citrullination is strongly linked with RA and it's known that in RA patients, citrullinated peptides are presented to the immune system in via HLA-DR molecules.

Scancell have now shown for the very first time that they can also be presented via other MHC class II molecules and in particular HLA-DP4 (and possibly other HLA-DP's). It's significant because HLA-DP4 is expressed by over 70% of the population and all forms of HLA-DP by over 90% of the population. In effect this research shows that Moditope can target a wider patient population.

Well as you say, the SCIB1 trial has become an albatross and I think most of us remain invested because of Moditope. We can only hope that Modi1 now progresses smoothly into the clinic. Scancell had originally intended to run a trial in up to 85 patients for Modi1, it will be interesting to see how the design has changed and whether or not they have scaled back numbers.

As for John Chiplin's use of the word 'latestage' - well, we've heard that word before and frankly I find it slightly insulting that he even has the nerve to try planting that seed again.

Just a word of caution regarding the 3 large trades yesterday, I'm not sure that we have established with any certainty that they are all buys, especially given the share price action on the previous day.

Another new patent application has appeared in the UK journal today - title:-

'Ssea-4 binding members'

This again will be in connection with Avidimab. Ssea-4 is a cell surface antigen that is expressed in stem cells and over expressed in some cancers. Scancell recently presented a poster showing that the 2811 Avidimab mAb is ultraspecific against Ssea-4.

Usually, you'd expect an NED to give notice of his/her intention to stand down and they simply wouldn't put themselves forward for re-election. It is unusual to stand for re-election at the AGM and then move on a month or so later. Make of that what you will.

I believe Matthew Frohn was a member of the Audit Committee, the Remuneration Committee and the Nominations Committee so will be interesting to see what Scancell do about that.

I hope there is still some further strengthening of the Board to come!

Just 2 months ago in the Annual Report, Scancell stated:-

"Whilst Dr Matthew Frohn has been a member of the Board for more than nine years the Board considers that he remains independent and fully committed to the Company."

.......and little over a month ago he stood for re-election at the AGM and was duly re-elected.

I think we can be absolutely sure. The whole BOD categorically stated at the AGM that they would issue an RNS when the first patient was dosed. It's standard practice, every bio I have invested in has issued a regulatory RNS (as opposed to Reach) on dosing the first patient in a clinical trial as indeed have Scancell previously.

I'm really sorry to post this because I know it's not what any of us want to hear but there really haven't been any patients dosed yet. Scancell have been enrolling patients onto the trial since the 19th August but unless it's happened in the last couple of days, they still haven't dosed a patient - if they had we would have been told via RNS .

So they are enrolling and screening but have yet to recruit a patient that meets all criteria and can go on to be dosed. Limiting themselves to just one study centre really does restrict them to a very small pool of patients and only half of them will have the correct HLA typing without even thinking about all the other criteria.

The reality is that this very slow speed of recruitment is the true cost of pulling the IND and being forced to abandon the US trial centres, albeit temporarily.

The latest Scancell application has been filed but not yet published, so at the moment. you can only view a skeleton record and won't be able to see the full description/claims until its published. Hence the guess that it's Avidimab.

Assume it's in connection with the modification of the Fc region of the Avidimab mAbs.

Co-development company Cel-Sci announced this afternoon that the IDMC have reviewed unblinded data from their ongoing phase III head and neck cancer trial and recommended the trial continues until the appropriate number of events has occurred. The endpoint of the trial is when 298 events (deaths) have been reached.

You can't issue new equity at a price below nominal value hence previous consolidations whenever the share price was uncomfortably close to nominal value.
