That isn't necessarily true, a minus trade can just be a cancelled trade.
On or around manic Monday i put a buy order in for lower than the buy price in the hope I could pick up some cheap shares on the volititily, the price started to go north quickly and I really wanted the shares, so i phoned my broker and asked them to buy the shares at whatever the price was, and cancel my previous order, and that's how the order was printed.
A minus followed by the purchase.

My guess is the new variant is adding a bit of uncertainty. We don't really have a lot of data on it regarding transmission or severity.
