RE: Narco or litio10 Dec 2019 21:52
A battery factory financed with Chinese capital could be established in Sonora, where the existence of lithium deposits was confirmed.
Last week, Francisco Quiroga, deputy secretary of mining of the federal government announced that in Bacadéhuachi, Sonora, there are deposits of the mineral, necessary for the generation of renewable energies and the manufacture of batteries, whose extraction will begin in 2022.
In addition to protests, Bolivia, Chile and Argentina have in common the largest lithium reserve
Jorge Vidal, Secretary of Economy in that entity, said that on his trip through Asia he met with investors from Ganfeng Lithium, one of the main companies of mineral compounds, and owner of more than 20 percent of Bacanora Minerals.
Ganfeng participates in all critical stages of the value chain, including lithium extraction, metal processing, as well as the production and recycling of batteries, which makes it the largest mineral company in China.
In addition, the company has investments in the so-called Lithium Triangle, the largest mineral reserve in the world that Argentina, Bolivia and Chile share.
"They have more than seven thousand employees and are very interested in coming in January, they come on a commercial mission to Sonora, because they are interested in being here seeing the possibility of installing to set up a battery factory," explained Jorge Vidal.
The interest derives from the announcement that the largest lithium deposit in the world is in Sonora, on the borders with Chihuahua.
There is still no estimate of jobs that this could generate. “The production of lithium in the case of Sonora is very special, it is on the surface, so it is a process that seems very innovative, they have already invested between 20 and 25 million dollars, but right now what they are doing is developing the projection plan ”.
The calculations indicate that in the deposits there are reserves for 243 million tons, still uncertified, that exceed 21 million tons of Uyuni, in Bolivia, already certified.
