Morning Frankie....... 'News is rather Scary' .... it is indeed but then that's what happens when you get a jumped up bully voted into power of a country having Nuclear weapons power with delusions of grandeur on the world's stage Putin/Trump take your pick.......reminds me of school when the two biggest bullies of the year went head to head for the title 'Masterbully of the year' they're both the problem & neither the solution..... but the fight was eagerly watched by most of the school (Teachers weren't invited LoL) with no-one caring who won so long as the loser was beaten up enough kidz knew who to suck up to.......... sad state of affairs really brought into the supposedly adult arena of today's world from what I can see.
Anyway by 'Public' hands I assume you mean institutions rather than a government & my take on the difference is basically that PI's make their own purchases & sales of stocks & they're held in your own name (either in paper share certificates or more probably these days via a nominee account such as the share centre or many of the hundreds available via banks & other institutions) whereas institutional investors are those that effectively have control over large cash reserves they invest, things like your pensions, trust funds, other savings or cash ISA's entrusted to them' this they invest into a portfolio of companies (often based on your stated risk appetite) in their own name.... these are so called professionals who offer steady returns for pension investments & wouldn't generally risk it in companies that don't fit in with specific criteria for 'probable or provable returns' ...for instance we don't (if your look at our list of top shareholders they're all Nominee accounts i.e. you & me) but if you look at BCN's they're not so as they have Blackrock & M&G etc which are institutional - that's because there is a degree of comfort that BCN will make it to production or get bought out .... in either event considered a more solid & certain investment by institutions than we are.
Clancy we now have Minimal direct holding in (140M shares) gifted as compensation for the Leogang licence fiasco.
San Luis Argentina we still hold 4% (& can spend time & money on non-invasive 'pre-exploration' activities) we can only take a greater slice when the exploration licences are granted (or perhaps that should be if! LoL) & we issue the vendors the required millions of KDNC shares.
Have a good day..... I'll be out in the garden taking a tree down with a chainsaw - providing I still have all my fingers, hand, arm, leg later ' I'll be back ' ... :-)
