JC, you seem to be linking the improvement in ITV's SP to the current buoyant market. Isn't there a chance that ITV is being driven higher by the 'good news' story about ITVX and that may continue as the figures come in?....that is, even if the market does fall a little ITV might continue upwards and onwards to £1 & beyond.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing....it doesn't explain why I keep making the same mistakes though!

Robleo, I have heard it said that it is good to review the performance of funds & trusts every few years....just in case their suitability diverges from ones goals. Any fund manager can have an 'off' year apparently, but when it becomes a habit it is a problem.

Have I fundamentally misunderstood something?.....I thought one could only declare a profit - and be liable for CGT - when the asset was actually sold. I thought before that they were 'paper' profits.
Also don't funds have to say something like "Past performance is not indicative of future results"....just ask Neil Woodford.

I suppose there could be a trend away from growth stocks towards 'boring' value & financial companies due to a long term shift to higher interest rates. But lots of IF's and more wishful thinking (on my part). I haven't read much about such a trend....but given that nobody knows what next month holds it may take a while for any trends to become apparent and the financial industry to appreciate that things have changed for the good (or bad). I'm still not conviced that the bitcoin frenzy is over!!....I'm gonna start buying tulips instead.

I'm almost tempted to watch it to see how they manage to make Dervla look old enough to be Ioan's mother. Perhaps Ioan has spent a lot of time under the Hollywood knife.
Some bad reviews for this drama....but you cannot win them all!

Just like any investment, the entry point is important. Last year brokers & investment journalists were promoting LGEN at circa 280p (prior to results and/or ex-div date if I remember correctly). Several people on here were saying the opposite and suggested selling & buying back after the 'inevitable' fall.
It seems that LGEN doesn't have any long term substantial upward momentum and trades within a range - which could be because it is seen as an income stock. If you can buy LGEN at the right price then it is a 'safe but boring' bet. LGEN isn't going to set the investment world on fire....but perhaps we already know that and that's why we invest in it.

Yes, we obviously want growth. But not if it involves splashing the cash and buying a dream (META anyone!!!). Much preferable to buy companies for realistic and conservative valuations.....and obviously aim for organic growth by running the current business as efficently as possible.
Level of risk is commensurate with the premium paid. If you take on additional risk then you expect to be paid extra....I'm not sure LGEN offers hurricane cover!!

I'm not sure LGEN is ever going to set the investment world on fire. Do we really want a management team of risk takers. There is something to be said for steady & boring. The nearest we came to a bit of excitement was the LDI crisis, which so far LGEN haven't reported any consequences from.

Good positive update. Lets hope the good news continues.

gman, yes it does look like yesterdays fall was a 'buying' opportunity.....an overreaction to something that happened at DLG...quite a different business I would have thought. Not nice to see yesterday but good to see it bounce back today.
Perhaps it does show how jittery the market is at the moment and the slightest bit of good/bad news will be pounced upon and 'sometimes' taken out of context.

I thought he might have something worthwhile to add. It was interesting to see him put a timeframe of April on his prediction. What is happening in April to cause the SP to rise steadily?
It is fair comment to say the SP will rise because a share is undervalued (although there are probably other factors at play). I'm not sure there is a mad rush to buy ITV at the moment. Perhaps some people don't want the 'big profit' when it reaches 100p!! (more for me).

Economic headwinds mean nothing to a nuclear powered ship that will power through any conditions....if the 'ship' is rather old fashioned sailing 'ship' and has to tack into the head wind then going could be slow. I'm sure LGEN is nuclear - or even coal - powered!!
Diversification could also be important....perhaps sails as well as an engine. Just in case you throw a bearing!!

MtB, no 'trends' at all. I was referring to the economics headwinds that are fairly obvious & widely reported.

As in all meteorological allusions (i.e. wind) the forecast can vary between optimistic & pessimistic.
