Novacyt change of strategy?12 Feb 2021 10:31
From 'Half year 2020 results' RNS 17.09.2020
" . New strategy implemented to continue growth trajectory and consolidate performance through broadening focus on respiratory and transplant clinical diagnostics".
Note the word 'transplant'.
From 'R&D Update' RNS - 16.11.2020:
"In the medium-term, Novacyt expects to leverage its reputation, market intelligence and relationships developed during the COVID-19 response to commercialise new products, as well as expand its presence in respiratory and transplant clinical diagnostics, to continue to meet significant unmet market needs."
This was the last time the word 'transplant' was used discussing clinical diagnostic new products.
From 'Executive Management and Proposed Board Changes' 05.01.2020 RNS:
"His [Anthony Dyer's] new, important role reflects the Company's growth strategy, which includes selective potential M&A to supplement organic growth initiatives."
From RNS - Full Year 2020 Trading Update - 29.01.2021:
"Anthony Dyer has taken on a new role as Chief Corporate Development Officer to focus on executing against the Company's ambitious organic growth and innovation strategy, as well as its M&A strategy to supplement growth initiatives."
Also from the same document this, - the most clearly expressed statement of growth strategy yet:
"With the strengthened cash position of the Company, the business is able to continue to invest in innovation, organic expansion and external business development, in line with its growth strategy, to leverage its strong momentum as a leading European molecular diagnostic player in infectious diseases. Organically, Novacyt will continue to invest in its commercial infrastructure to deliver new products, as the Company continues to redefine its R&D pipeline and establish a direct sales force in key markets in the US and across Europe. The Company also continues to evaluate M&A opportunities and will consider additional bolt-on acquisitions to add strategic assets and functionality to the expanding Group."
Nothing here about transplants.
++++
My take is that 'transplants' may still be on the agenda, but the new priority one has become bioinformatics surveillance, spawning the innovative SNPsig product announcement on 02.02.2021 and noting the recent, 'the first three SNPsig® assays are also being deployed to an international consortium of leading academic and public health laboratories in the UK, Europe, US and Latin America7, assembled by Novacyt to support a global variant diagnostic surveillance study.'
Thus establishing first mover advantages again.
Bioinformatics surveillance is a much longer lasting area of research operations for Novacyt, as the market seems to believe there is a relatively finite length of time for Covid-19 testing assay's.
When the market understands this, we will see sp improve as future forward looking statements expand on years of future RNA tracking.
