Clear and Present Danger21 Feb 2021 11:28
IMO VanV has a point that posters are discussing the expected impact of more accurate LFT devices, - and the circumstances in which they are planned to be used, - when the biggest opportunity for NCYT, and for YEARS INTO THE FUTURE is here and now in genomic surveillance.
This time last year a market for virus testing blossomed into something huge.
We all know NCYT rose to that challenge and significantly changed it's finances and reputation. (Heck we even manufacture portable PCR instruments now).
We still await an announcement about phase 2 (or it's natural replacement now new assays are available), but the job vacancies tell us we have been successful in winning a contract, just no sure what, how long for, and how much it's worth.
++++
The here and now (that will secure the longer term future and guarantee Mid Cap status if we succeed in grabbing first mover status) is the genomics opportunity, and I would suggest that a great deal of the resources available to GM (or BossaNova ( - thanks ScaredieCat)), are as I type - focused on maximising this opportunity.
We are clear that the press think that a vaccinated population, - and plans to speed up vaccination are being made), is a safe poulation where LFT's can do the testing providing immediate test results.
Those plans pave the way for a return to normal.
Well actually no, because virus mutation is a clear and present danger to vaccine validity.
Public Health is increasingly becoming a race to
a) find a mutation distinct from previous mutations
b) Surge test populations in post code areas where such new mutations may exist,
whilst simultaneously identifying whether the new mutation is a Variant of Concern or just a Variant Under Investigation, before the new mutation takes hold, and the genie is out of the box.
- UK has all the evidence it needs about how fast a mutation can spread, and to be realistic, we have to assume it can spread faster still.
Every nation from now on will have to keep checking to see whether a new mutation has occured, and asses its capabilities to be more deadly or to spread faster.
First mover status on this opportunity is what GM is trying to capitalise on, and only some of his efforts to do so are visible in the last RNS.
For me this company is fast becoming a company providing the (portable) tools and equipment to the genome hunters.
All the answers to a multifaceted threat lie in the development and use of portable equipment.
