IMO Beta variant is 'fading' because the Delta variant is more contagious.
What we need is a company like Novacyt to be involved with a team that are tasked with creating a variant that is more contagious than Covid-19 Delta, but does not make people ill, or have symptoms no worse than a cold.
If we are involved to a large extent with Genomic sequencing, it's a shame we can't help to deliver something like that.
It would have to be tested to death first, on all races, but if it were so prevalent, and successful, you might be able to end the Pandemic.
I'm no expert on the Spanish flu, but that virus must have mutated to something the human race didn't recognise as Spanish flu, so that all flue seasons after 1920 were no different, - and only as pathogenic - as flu seasons prior to 1919.

IF, - thats a big IF - knowing the reputation of the author, the UK government will shortly need to take France out of Orange 'plus' travel category.

Good riddance to Beta, Delta is quite enough to be getting on with.
I hope the number of infections continues to drop, but it would be nice to know why that trend reversal is happening from the govt. advisers.

The Sunday Mail article also contains this good news:
..."In fact, on the day the decision was taken to place France in the Orange plus category, new research was available showing a single AZ dose was 83 per cent effective at stopping hospitalisations caused by the South African strain, only slightly lower than its 88 per cent protection against the Indian (Delta) variant."

I certainly hope that finding is correct, but article does not state source.

Worse case, the SA variant gets a hold in UK and demonstrates it can escape the AZN vaccine for a reasonable number of those people AZN vaccinated.
UK govt. obviously concerned because they created Orange plus traffic light category this week, with only France in it, to introduce quarantine for those returning from France (where SA variant is dominant I believe).
Would I be right in thinking that a 'booster' vaccine would take six or more months to create, in order to address this problem.

UK has ordered other vaccines we have not taken delivery of yet (that I know of), so I wonder if providing these vaccines to those previously double jabbed with AZN would assist in combating the SA variant.
Might that be a possibility do you think?

Then we would know that come end of September, - should there be any left - DHSC deliveries in March would be out of shelf life.

IMO the airline industry income hangs completely on what individual European nations decide about visitors.
Whatever Boris says (and he may or may not be listening to medical advisers, - SAGE etc), now and for the rest of this summer / autumn, will impact any passenger number calculations any airline makes.
Without full visibility of the disruption to hospitals and commerce that are yet to happen, airline calcs are pie in the sky.
and we may yet have to lock down if hospitals are overcome with Covid patients, because Boris gambled and lost.

Try monitoring these over the coming weeks to establish how many more flights are being operated.

Just googled 'qrt-PCR for assessing immune cell density and cytokine (CK) gene profile'.

It has brought up a number of articles, but the surprise for me was that some of the articles were quite old (around 2003).
If there was money to be made in developing this technology, we could expect Novacyt R&D to be busy, and perhaps it is the case that it is one subject that has not hit priority one yet (like variant detection has at present).
So we might have plans to get involved, but we have stated that 'respiratory and transplantation markets' will be our focus for now at least. - Let's see though.

IMU has to be something to do with immunisation I feel, so I'll stick for now.

IMO the ImuPLEX tradename is going to be applied to the to the next generation of LFT to detect the neutralizing antibodies generated by successful immunisation and, therefore, to assist in monitoring the effectiveness of future vaccines.
Just my guess though, - for now. :)

I find it difficult to believe that some of this story is novel.
We have known about the Beta variant for a long time, and there should be nothing about it we didn't already known, - with all the genomic sequencing we undertake, for ourselves and for other nations.

Ergo Promate not supplied after the end of March 2021?

"Novacyt expects PROmate™ to continue to be rolled out in hospitals, private sector settings and international markets for the foreseeable future, although the Company believes that Q1 PROmate™ sales may be sufficient to support the NHS current roll out plans for the remainder of 2021."

If the shelf life is six months, only use of PROmate beyond the shelf life can satisfy NHS plans for the whole of 2021.

Is the NHS plans to discontinue use of PROmate after September to respect shelf life, - and not use unused product for the remainder of 2021?

The redacted contract stated that the company needed plenty of warning about large orders.

Outside of that contract, DHSC does not have much hope of supply short term, though the company would do all in it's power to provide assays (and instruments?) provided it knew it was going to be paid.
I'm pretty sure GM would take a valid credit card for such a DHSC order, but this is all speculation, and does not consider that the Q1 2021 Promate order may already have been used completely due to the number of tests required recently.
