It's Christmas time and the sun is shining2 Dec 2021 09:44
Simply beautiful frosty morning in Sand Hutton today. The brilliant sunshine bouncing off the trees, the factory and around the site. Production smoke pointing a vertical highway up toward the sparkly blue sky.
The number 843 was packed this morning with eager umpa lumpas chomping at the bit to disembark and crack on with the days production. As they all shuffled through the car park entrance, Doris hesitated and clearly wanted a word. Bosses are planning a big Christmas surprise apparently with an order placed with a local supplier for several hundred knitted Christmas stockings. "Not sure" she says as to what they re to be filled with, but she's happy to have been able to put her expected Christmas "extra" into shares at 25p. I politely declined the offer though of exploring further the matter of her Christmas stockings. Exchanging a brief smile, she quickly caught up with her colleagues, with more of a skip than her usual amble into work.
Gets me a thinking about what's causing this positive vibe from Doris, as she is usually a good bell-weather indicator of what's going on. The cacophony from Goods Outwards seems to have reduced since last I was here, with those pesky Affimers seemingly both resigned to staying over till the New Year and mindful of upsetting the critters packed in other boxes nearby. Get the feeling now that everyone is looking forward to a Christmas break and a stream of positive announcements, now that the bank manager is a lot happier. Ah well the return bus is due in fifteen minutes, best return home with a warm feeling and the tune "The only way is up" ringing in my ears.
