FAP (fibroblast activation protein) is a magnificent target for any type of therapy for treating a disease that involves pathogenic activated fibroblasts. We are celebrating our review featured on the cover of the current FBL issue. Solid tumours, liver cirrhosis, arthritis, fibrosis in lung, heart or kidney, or endometriosis could potentially be treated by FAP targeting. FAP is a unique protease. We review FAP targeting for attacking solid tumours, primarily by killing CAFs (cancer associated fibroblasts) or by harnessing FAP to concentrate an anti-cancer drug in tumours. FAP targeting increases efficacy while decreasing side effects. Happily, this is our third review on FAP in FBL since 2008.

But how do you go from fantastic target, which it's been for decades, to target of an approved therapy?
