Some on here have stated that the shorts go long on TLW bonds and short on TLW shares. Friday 4pm was the deadline for the bond tender. Could it be that someone who has done this is selling their bond to TLW and thus closing their short.....hmmmm

We have sanctions against Russia because of the war in Ukraine and are paying a fortune for our energy because of it. Yet India, China and even Kenya it seems can openly do business there and benefit from the situation.

Agree fewdollarsmore. I always like J.bond's posts as they always provide an interesting perspective. Obviously depends on a lot of external factors, but looks like we've bottomed at around 25p. Been a while since the usual suspects on here have told us we're going sub 10p again.

Hopefully they've rinsed us for as much as the can now we've dropped from 66p to 25p and they will now attempt to generate profit from getting the share price to rise back up. Must surely be a better bet long than short at this share price given the current circumstances.

This is probably way beyond my comprehension and level of understanding so this may be a stupid question, however why would anyone sell them a bond. Even if you bought it for 50% of face value why sell for 75% of face value when you can get 100% in 2025. That is assuming Tullow didn't go bust, however Rahul has stated he is confident they won't and refinancing is not an issue. Plus unless I misunderstood they are only spending $75m .... does that possibly mean they hope to pay no more that 75% for $100m in bonds.

Is this an exercise to find someone who got in low and wants to make a quick buck, thus beneftting both parties and to show some willing to deal with debt makingvthe bonds a bit more exciting at the same time?

Anyone else think this is a bit of a meaningless update. There must be a reason for it though .... is there a rumour or some news leaking?

Apeirogon it's not an obsession. However, shorters on here.... well most of them anyway..... are disliked as they:

a) appear to take great delight in holders losing money.

b) never openly admit they are short.

c) pretend not to be invested in any way in the share.

d) are obnoxious, abusive and tend not to be very nice people.

Perhsps there is a place in the market, however I personally I think short selling and lending of shares should be banned. There have definitely been cases of companies being taken down by a short attack. Would I short if I knew what I was doing and could make money out of it......maybe.

And don't forget that they also spent $118m on the Jubilee and TEN preemption which is a one off.

Really does make you wonder ...... fortunately the reality is that no matter what I or anyone else says on this board it will not make the slightest difference to the possibility of a Kenya deal, a Ghana gas deal or the results of the campaign to increase production in Ghana .... and the oil price for that matter.

There's definitely more to it than meets the eye. You just have to think about it logically. If it was dead and buried all 3 would have walked away and not just Total and AOI. Plus the Kenyan government wouldn't be debating this anymore. and there is no way Rahul would spend anymore on Kenya unless he was certain there was still some hope. So if there's still hope, then the question is why did the other two walk away and why was it at exactly the same time. We know large oil companies are trying to rebrand themselves as more green and eco friendly, and let's face it building a pipeline through the whole of Kenya is going to get the environmentalists riled up. We also know that AOI are going to have to pump a lot of cash into the Namibian discovery and probably don't have the cash for both. So perhaps when the strategic partner negotiations hit a wobble they decided to exit and not commit anything more to Kenya as the deal seemed unlikely. However, by the very nature of them quitting the deal becomes more likely as there is more for Tullow to give away. A bit like two people each having half a £5 note being unable to spend it and each half on it's own having no value, however if one can convince the other to get their half then the two halves become worth £5.

So perhaps ....and just perhaps.... Rahul is not as bad a CEO as lots of people on here make him out to be and has by skill, luck and circumstance ended up in a very good position to make Kenya happen.

Who knows, however we should find out soon enough.

well i genuinely.... and yes naively.....believed at 60p this would go past £1. that is why i ramped and stupidly held on the drop. in fact i still believe this can get to £1 so am hapoy to hold. despite how clever you think you are, no one can accurately predict what will happen in the future....so end of the day we're all just gambling and there'll always be winners and losers. in your case, whether you win or lose, at the end of the day you're still an ********.
