In a way, this is a silly debate. Even if DA sold for a mere 1.5 billion, never mind 30, that would lead to cash in company that wold amount to about a 16 bagger from here. So come on chaps, lets not get greedy. If it sells for more then wayhay. But keep the numbers reasonable to avoid disappointment in a scenario that should bring joy.

j33.. absolutely. It's the 'at scale' aspect that Keyscaler is all about. Hence it's name. That's the huge problem that it solves. Large industrial complexes with thousands of networked sensors. This is its market. That's not every IoT device, but it's a very large portion of them.

There's vastly more than 1,000,000! But Keyscaler is for organisations that need to secure many devices. Of their own. Many companies will have a number of devices that can be secured using the Azure default, built in system, or even done manually. Let's assume... what... 30% of (how many?) billions of devices need keyscaler in order to be properly managed? So lets say at least a billion. Yes I know it's ultimately more, but I'm trying to stay grounded.

And as this takes off, I'm sure that AWS price schedule will include discounts for volume, not to mention competition breaking out between AZ and MS.

OK, DA's worth a fark of a lot :-). But I still say that it's not going to sell for 30 billion, or anywhere near, in the next couple of months. I sooo hope I'm wrong to the downside.

I've always said that DA would sell for between 300 and 500 mill. With an outside chance of it breaking through the billion barrier. With recent developments including Biden et al, I agree that 500m has probably been left behind. I reckon somewhere between 1.5 and 3 billion.

We shall see. I'd really love to be wrong to the downside. And in truth I'd make enough to cover my desires either way.

Nuance has been in speech recognition (an absolutely vast market) for 20 years. It's also heavily AI oriented which is a hot topic right now (yay for Talking Medicines :-))

I'm not putting DA down at all. Would I do that? I've been here since 2016. And tern almost broke me when it was in the doldrums. I've had to sell half my holding over the years just to raise spending money.

But 30 billion? No, I'm sorry. Ten years from now maybe. Even five.

Stephen on advfn has got Wyld so wrong. Yes, again, it's (going to be) extremely valuable. But 5G and LES will change the telecoms landscape, and those telecoms companies can start charging for that unused bandwidth at some point. But don't let me sour his enthusiasm. He's absolutely right to be keen. Wyld too is going to make Tern a lot of money. It'll be another DA. Just not for the reasons he's espousing. In my opinion anyway.

Gawd there are some silly numbers being kicked about on advfn. DA worth 30 billion? Calm down ladies and get a grip. It's extremely valuable, but not 30 billion ffs. This is all getting a bit hysterical. Let's get to the quid first, if we can.

I don't know all of those, but those I do hold very small percentages of their investees. So the value of those investees has to be astronomical for them to make any real money from them. (Vela strikes me as a joke.) Compare that to Tern.

The object of the exercise was to identify a more mature example that could provide a guide as to where Tern could go. But it seems there aren't any. Tern may be unique, partly because of the strength of it's investees, but also because, unusually it seems, it owns such large stakes in them. The majority holding in the case of DA and Wyld.

Because it will be of interest to people who have been here far longer than you.

Thanks. I'm asking not because I'm looking for other investments but to see if there are any equivalent companies to Tern out there in order to get a feel for what might happen here. But I'm stating to think Tern may be unique.

... other companies similar to Tern (ie investment vehicles and start up incubators) in order to see what their mcaps are? I know of AAA at 546m, but I also know of PIRI at 16m. Neither were attractive to me as the first only seems to have one investee, and the second owns such tiny percentages. Tern owns large percentages of several good investees. I can't find a similar proposition...

EMH has indeed gone slow. I'd expected some more developments by now. My take is that various negotiations are complicated and so it's taking time... although I'd like to know their intentions as regards doubling up production.
