Your comment about employing teenagers reminded me of this.
Many years ago I worked for a really innovative IT company. The parent company never really understood what we did, trashed the business and sold us off to a fairly successful it business that did very stodgy run of the mill work for government and military.
All my team were sent on intensive “induction” courses high consisted of working through hundreds of pages of prescribed methodologies and systems and documentation standards etc etc.
At the end of it, all the creativity and enthusiasm was gone. Eventually I gave up, and left to start my own business. My boss was shocked, and at the exit interview, I said, you never once asked us what we had, or what we thought about your systems, or what ideas we had that you could take advantage of.
Any organisations never take advantage of the talent they employ.
