With the NHS stopping elective procedures I’m surprised this sp is still falling. Surgeons should be racing to private hospitals to carry out operations in their facilities if they can’t use the NHS operating theatres.

I didn’t think I would ever read RNS statements like those issued recently by NMC and FIN. What have their financial advisors, solicitors, auditors, BANKS and all the other expensive hangers on been doing?
This only listed a few months ago!! Was any due diligence at all carried out?

You kind of feel that Mediclinic has to make a move here at some point soon. They must be struggling to grow their business at home in SA and having made the case for the original investment in Spire at a much higher share price (and exchange rate) and having held it for this long perhaps now is the time to give SPI shareholders a decision to make!!!

It’s because the market knows Spire would much rather be performing elective, private surgery procedures than filling their beds with NHS patients.

100% the UAE Govt will step in to protect their health service!
Just don’t think shareholders will be their concern. Creditors and employees will be their priority to ensure the lights stay on and the staff turn up for work!

Obtaining liquidity in the future years from hedge counter parties is almost impossible. Oil companies tried to hedge their production out 4 , 5 years or longer when prices were over $100/bbl but the banks and other institutions couldn’t provide a market in scale that far out. Only way to sell it forward as you suggest is to sell the company when prices are high!!

Agreed, my mistake.
However I increasingly believe the only people who are going to sort this out are NMC themselves more precisely a new NMC management team. In my experience you never ever get an offer when you need one!!
New CEO and FD with healthcare experience are required urgently required imo. hopefully the Board have figured that out at least!!!

By 5pm this evening I predict NMC will announce the offer period will be extended.
Until all the investigative work is completed I don’t believe an unconditional offer can be made.

If the oil price goes down to $20/bbl as predicted you should be more worried about every oil co....

After recent events I think any bid for NMC is highly unlikely tbh. As I’ve said before I think the Abu Dhabi government have no choice but to intervene here and either inject funds through an equity type investment or a sovereign guarantee to the NMC
lenders. The NMC medical facilities are too important to the UAE to be allowed to continue under the current cloud of uncertainty.

We need a Lazarus like event here I think to regain some equilibrium. Hopefully tomorrow’s RNS on the bid process will bring some much needed clarity.

Reading the 22nd August 2019 NMC Half Year Financial Report it is inconceivable that the company performance described in that report can be the same NMC of today. That report is full of superlatives on their “Strong first half performance underpins full year expectations”, “Balance Sheet strength” , “continued successful execution”, “market leading performance”, “Management remains highly confident in relation to future performance”
Exactly what has been going on here? Surely NMC investors are entitled to an explanation?

It’s unlikely to be the Italians that bid however as they have enough on their plate at the present time!

To be fair the shares had a great run in H2 of 2019. Keeping their head down and getting on with business has helped them. Looking at the fundamental results they still look overvalued to me on an EV/ebitda basis and they don’t generate much free cash flow. However the market clearly expects the new management team to deliver big time in future and gives them the valuation accordingly.
Current virus shouldn’t impact them too badly unless hospitals start delaying procedures etc in a big way to keep their beds free. But hard to tell at present if that’s going to happen. GLAH.

I used to work in the UAE and I remember when I was transferred out of country I received a terminal cash bonus from my employer equal to 5 weeks salary for every year of service that I had completed. NMC have around 16,000 employees in the UAE. For their sake I hope that NMC have made provision and (more importantly) have the cash available to pay all these employees their bonuses! As well as their ongoing salaries obviously.
