Also that prediction was based on a much lower renewables penetration ratio than the 90% that is being proposed by Berkeley2035 - you can see how the more aggressive decarbonisation strategy of the UK Future Energy Scenarios (Community Renewables) leads to much higher battery storage requirements.

Importantly Berkeley2035 states " ELECTRICITY COSTS FROM THE 90% CLEAN GRID ARE LOWER THAN TODAY’S COSTS"

Page 7 shows that c. 150 GW of battery storage needs to come onstream by 2035. Given current average durations for new build batteries in the US are around 4 hours this equates to 600GWh, but it could be greater than this, if the NREL mix for gas peaker displacement is followed (https://www.nrel.gov/docs/fy19osti/74184.pdf ) then 6 and 8 hour batteries will add to the mix and the average will work out at over 6 hours.

So we could be looking at 1000 GWh of battery storage. Just in the US.

That would be equivalent to approximately 1200x the Dalian 800MWh battery.

indeed Sumitomo are one of if not THE longest serving company in the VRFB field. They have multiple installations, including the building sized 60MWh in Hokkaido. I've personally visited their installation in Belgium before it was switched on last year.

Crux - why don't you ask why they are keeping so quiet about the Lithium.

Every other Lithium hard rock play on the planet would be crowing about a Lithium Carbonate Equivalent resource of 1.11Million Tonnes+ of LCE - for example Prospect Resources (ASX:PSC) has 1.12 Million Tonnes and claims to be the 7th largest hardrock Lithium resource in the world - I reckon that puts Afritin at equal 7th.

Uis was at one point the largest hard rock tin mine in the world.

I don't see why it cannot be the same again.

It is not BMN - we always make a profit as we are one of the lowest cost producers, it is just how much. It is the VRFB manufacturers that can be completely left high and dry by high V prices, as a number of them were in 2018. THEY are really the people who need to have V-price stability.

FFS you cannot store power, it should read 800MWh, the h signifying hours. If they cannot even get this truly basic detail right why would anyone think that they can anything else right.

Petalite (and secondary spodumen formed from it) is lower in iron than primary spodumen making it a more useful source of lithium in e.g. the production of glass. The colorless varieties are often used as gemstones.

This is equivalent to 4.34 Million tonnes of Lithium carbonate ( Li is just 10.4% of Lithium Carbonate by mass https://www.webqc.org/molecular-weight-of-LiCO3.html )

Lithium Carbonate currently sells for 7,500 USD per Tonne so 4.34 Million tonnes would therefore be equivalent to an in-ground resource value of somewhat more than your 20 Billion USD fatbanker - rather it is closer to 32.5 Billion USD

pekingduck if you wait until the Lithium is sold then you will be last to the party.

Sanchez - indeed it is a fix, but it is no different here to any other share. The difference here is that there is a very strong understanding of the fundamental potential for the business so we are not going to be spoofed out of our shares with any of these games. We are more than capable of being patient.
