You have no case MEM - you say that you want to buy BMN but then complain because you are getting a fabulously low buying price. I for one don't believe that you have any kind of loss to whine on about and also don't care, you are a big boy now aren't you, so stop complaining.

As I've said before the SP does not provide a measure of what the company is worth but the cheapest price that someone is prepared to give away their shares for - thus it is a measure of perhaps only a single investor.

If there are not sufficient people to take advantage of a temporary misvaluation then the misvaluation simply continues until it does.

Indeed there is Peter Fischer from Fraunhofer ICT who has built his own 20MWh VRFB and Adam Whitehead who was with Gildermeister but joined RedT (now Invinity of course) when Gildemeister (then Cellcube and now Enerox) got into financial straights about 2.5 years ago.

knuttie - it is not enerox, the german/austrian company that actually makes the VRFBs, that we are waiting for the accounts for, it is Cellcube, previously known as Stina resources, the tag-along-have-a-go-at-building-an-integrated-vanadium-mines-to-batteries-business that bit off more than they could chew. They need to sort out their accounts then we can finalise the Enerox buyout. No hurry, if they go bust I expect that we'll own them nothing as I recall that we loaned them money to keep Enerox in business and so now we may well be one of the lenders of first resort.

allthatguff - you really don't understand what grid batteries are all about. They are designed to be used as often as possible so that you can get as much functional use out of the capex you have to spend.

The round trip-efficiency is crucial to being able to use the asset as often as you can. If the RTE is less than 50% it means you have to pay someone twice as much to charge the battery as you might otherwise have to. This increases the cost of every single charge-discharge cycle and will be what ultimately makes it very difficult for hydrogen or cryogenic air energy storage to participate strongly in the daily peak shifting application which is the key one that displaces CO2 emitting gas peaker generation.

Unfortunately if you think this is minor 'quibbling' then you don't understand the basic economics of energy storage.

The thing is that they try and claim that it has over 50% efficiency by coupling it to a source of 'waste heat' so that they can inject extra energy into their system to counteract the unavoidable losses due to thermodynamic irreversibility that you get with such large swings in temperature.

This 'waste heat' is actually gas from a landfill site that they are burning. So what they are claiming is greater than 50% efficiency for their 'energy storage' system when they tack a gas-fired thermal generator alongside their 'energy storage' system. You could do this with anything and, unreasonably, attempt to claim improved electrical-in-electrical-out efficiency. I could do it with a tub of lard and get over 100% round-trip efficiency.

Their attempts to claim >50% electrical efficiency are simply so that they can try and jump on the 'battery' bandwagon.

As I say it is not a battery and has a round trip efficiency of less than 50%. Are you prepared to defend your claim that it is a 'climate emission killer' since it actually produces CO2 ?
