Personally I think the big unknown unknown is what Putin really wants. I know he wants all of Ukraine but even he must realise by now that this isn’t going to happen. Does he want out this mess and somehow save face in the process? Or does he want to continue and hope Trump abandons Ukraine? He must be scared stiff of all his blokes coming home and tell Russian folk how it’s really been on the front. And lots of questions about the ones that don’t come home, where they are and what’s happened to them. I don’t think they’ll ever be peace while he’s alive which makes any kind of negotiation a waste of time. Crippling sanctions, ie remove all Russian banks from the SWIFT system, secondary sanctions, huge military assistance to Ukraine and cease the 300bn he was stupid enough to leave in western banks. Then he might start to take the west seriously. I’m hopeful sooner or later Trump is going to lose his rag with him and start listening to the likes of Lindsey Graham.

Nothing but a photo opportunity. Putin has now put Trump on the position of if he does nothing he’s going to look weak. If he increases sanctions on Russia he’s destroyed the so called progress they made. I bet Putin never made any concessions whatsoever.

I agree Cebo-456 the fundamentals here ae what's important here. This could be over a quid if it looks like there'll be some route to peace. Two quid if there's peace and the legal issues are sorted out. Three quid if both of the above and all 4 pelletisers are back up and running. We need the stars to align to get a decent pay day. Sooner or later they will.

He should try listening to some people in the states with real knowledge of Russia. Then he’d know how to deal with Putin.

JNth got put on the filter list years ago. I’m surprised he’s still here. Probably preaching rubbish about Zelensky and how he should have surrendered to the Russian scum years ago.

Zelensky is one of the greatest leaders of this generation. He’s being dragged down by poor leadership in the west and Putin in the east. Now Trumps going to try and impose some awful land grab on him.

Wake up people. The world is heading for confrontation but Ukraine can stop this if we give them what they need.

Before the Russian invasion of Ukraine around 1% of Indian oil imports were from Russia. Now they are 30% - 40%. They deliberately set out to profit from Ukrainian death and help Russia evade sanctions. India should have been sanctioned years ago but there’s Starmer making free trade deals with them and leaving sanctions to the U.S.

The whole thing is a farce. It’s a win for Putin just being invited to America.

Putin understands one language , force/power. Personally I don’t think he has any interest in peace at present. He’s just stringing Trump along for a while longer hoping he’ll abandon the Ukrainians. Putin will make demands the Ukrainians can’t agree to and Trump will blame them for not taking the deal.

Russian kit is rubbish. Like Zelensky said ‘The Russian army isn’t strong, it’s just big’.

Maybe Zelensky isn’t giving all his cards away like Trump. He’s been speaking to Trump and European leaders a lot so I can’t believe he didn’t have any idea of what’s going on.

Donald Trump has said he will meet "very shortly" with Vladimir Putin.

The US president said "we're getting very close to a deal on Ukraine".

"I will meet very shortly with President Putin," he said. The meeting would have been sooner but there are "security arrangements" that need to take place, he added.

"He would like to meet as soon as possible, I agree with him, but we'll be announcing that very shortly," Trump said.

He said there would be "some swapping of territories to the betterment of both sides".

I wish they’d bring this Zhevago thing to head. France/EU are hypocrites for pushing Ukraine to fight corruption but then refusing to extradite him. Major U.S. sanctions package could be coming this week. Interim results on Wednesday. Could be an interesting week.
