"In March, Sony announced it had sold 4.2 million PlayStation VR (PSVR) headsets. Earlier this month, Playstation lead Jim Ryan told CNet, “The current generation of VR has exceeded our expectations. When you step back and look at it - and this is the way I like to look at it - one in 20 of the people who found the money to go out and buy a PlayStation 4, and all the games and peripherals that they enjoyed with that, have also found the money to then go buy the PlayStation VR and all the games and peripherals that go on top of that.”
I wonder when Sony will push the button on our app for the PS.
It won't come as a surprise to many here that I'm pumped up about this share. Out of around 20 positions, this is the one I break all the rules. Must be the music!
John Carmack did a bit of content at the beginning of the year for the Oculus Go/Rift - a graphic story using foveated rendering. It was quite good - the resolution got a lot sharper where you were directly looking, reducing the load of the gpu/cpu. There was a very very, small noticeable lag but I would expect this to improve no doubt. These developments will all help with the expected 8k streaming and 5g
I agree BA, the big push is soon upon us. Found this website that gives an idea of costs for TV adverts. https://tvadvertising.co.uk/?gclid=Cj0KCQjwgLLoBRDyARIsACRAZe5q19s6Mj9LdNt7mE2A5UwNuZUGRHP5NX9HFf5fbg7EGsPFUzNsnesaAvbjEALw_wcB The metrics available through a medium like VR, will be infinitely more valuable than what's offered through conventional channels. With a headset they know the content is being viewed. As eye tracking becomes available they'll be able to see what, exactly, you are looking at. This is like gold dust to advertisers and should imo represent an extra revenue stream. If they can nail this, their data will be very much sought after.
What FA Cup ad, Keith?
Lots of questions surrounding whether it'll be a free or paid stream. I'm wondering also if any advertising revenue might come from this. Nice selection of partners on the festival's official site. Uber, Mcd, Hotels.com, Pepsi. Any revenue share in place? I guess we'll know soon enough, but at the first sight of an ad, we know where this is headed.
falling on your own barbs loonville. 3 seconds perusal of existing mvr content would have dissuaded you from posting such tripe..
without a doubt the stupidest fud i've seen on these boards.. cameras not allowed on the stage?? dear oh dear
Fair point though. No chance artists are going to tolerate cameras. And on the stage no less!! Best remain cautious.
V nice. More positive news from Melody. Backstage VR area also available. Everything's evolving here. GLA
Themis, the quality of the audio/visual experience is handled by the phones processor. The Oculus go uses a processor that is 3yrs old. The experience will therefore be a better one in newer devices. The phone VR app is in addition to the fact that users with any smartphone can now access the 360 degree content without any headset whatsoever. This is a very good move forward for Melody.
Yep. I would imagine melody's headset & phone will be a lot lighter and more comfortable than the go. Plus the Go uses a 2016 processor. Any Snapdragons produced later than then, should produce a better visual/audio experience.
"The MelodyVR viewer, which will be made available to consumers later this year, delivers an experience that 86% of users in consumer testing agree is comparable or better than Oculus Go. The product will be also available to consumers at an extremely low cost " This won't be poor kit imv. The bundle should make the leap attractive to many sitting on the fence.
Great news. Wasn't expecting the headset announcement. This imo should be more pivotal than the release of Oculus sets as it significantly lowers the price barrier to view vr (and with an experience better than Oculus'!)
Tsk tsk gell... Rocket propelled snails of course! Don't you ever Twitter??
V nice find Rum. I can see fans gobbling up this content. Then moving onto headsets if they desire. Lots of comments on the LP and KC release especially, clamouring for accessible content.
Nice. Continuing to move forward. "The Company has continued to experience strong customer traction from both new and established games since the start of the year and now expects both adjusted EBITDA and revenue to be ahead of market expectations for the current year."
Correction - Facebook Technologies Ireland Ltd
Oculus Technologies Ireland LLC - we're paid by them for content purchased hence the income split. 1m + didn't come from Ibiza.
Hopefully his tardiness doesn't land himself in hot water with the authorities. Companies Act and all.
Interesting also, that 1 billion smartphones seems to be a substantially conservative estimate of the number of devices out there. Most sites are quoting 2-3 bil.
