I'm not sure you have missed anything. Why do many of you think this concert is related to MVR? We only have the rights to VR content, not everything the band/artist does. Unless I have missed something, nothing in that announcement suggests it's a VR experience. Happy to be proved wrong.

I doubt that their licences extend to non vr content. Any smartphone compatible recordings will be vr with something like cardboard or Gear. Huge potential market.
