Vaccine13 Apr 2020 13:09
I as well as a lot of you have obviously heard about the Oxford laboratory developing this vaccine which they hope to have ready by June. The simple answer here is that yes they could have it ready by then BUT that is only a quarter of the problem. They have to test it first on a small number of people for approx 1-3 months, if that is successful then a wider testing on more people. IF the testing is successful (3-6 months) then it has to be manufactured on a large wide scale which therein lies the biggest problem, we don't have enough places, sites to manufacture at a rapid base. So to sum up, yes the vaccine could be successful but to scale it up especially in the UK to give it to everyone will involve at least a year to two years in my view.
Why have I posted this? Well we just can't sit back and wait can we, the testing process has to be scaled up rapidly and in my view the government should be on this as they have already made so many mistakes. Unfortunately I think BJ and all will be focusing more on the vaccine than testing now. If we had followed Germany then we wouldn't be in this precarious position now. The guy from the Welcome Trust who was on Marr on Sunday yesterday more or less said so.
Why are so many applauding BJ I don't know! If he hadn't followed his advisors advice and made his own judgements then it would have been better. The prime minister is not the best person to advise the UK, it needs a proper health official to take charge who knows what he is talking about and abiding by WHO rules. We have now come too far along the road now and we have to accept our fate. All the warnings have only been heeded by a certain majority, just yesterday my next door neighbour had loads of family round for a barbecue. The general view to people is "U ain't got it yet and even if I do I won't die"
Thus will go but away what then? Repercussions and the blame factor, no time for healing. Test, test, test (100%) should be the message now and specifically buying more of Novacyt tests.
