Fuel cells have been around since the sixties. Too expensive, very little infrastructure in place for the masses.
Cars will all move toward hybrid then when the tech and infrastructure is in place and cheap enough then probably they will be powered by some kind of fuel cell to negate the massive amount of electricity needed to power vehicles. Same goes for any type of motor driven equipment.
My point being we live in the here and now. We still need the main staple commodities that have build our civilisation.
