Let's assume vaccine did protect against severe illness. The infection and cases has risen in Europe and UK. UK reporting 50 k cases yesterday. Why is this ? People immunity has reduced with booster offered to elderly as this group is mostly at risk the younger ones who may be vaccinated may not have enough immunity as boosters arnt offered to them yet. and if this variant catch hold of them. Then hospitalisation could rise? What we need to know how aggressive this variant is.. I think this variant has come at a wrong time when cases are rising and immunity levels of vaccinated dropping. So u can only see cases rising from now onwards

The efficency is the cocnern here. The scientist who created the vaccine and researchers who've followed this throughat the start of the pandemic, have called this variant horrific. That alone coming from professionals doesn't inspire confidence really does it? I mean, the variant is the worst they've seen clearly shows the vaccines makers that something they've created may not be as effective. Hence the decision by uk government..

Also, if boosters needs tweaking, and rolling it out could take months, so potentially restriction could go around 6 months imho....it all depends on how far its spread. If it can be contained then great....looks like virus has been spreading since around start of November. Then on 11th November is I think where the variant was identified and restriction imposed on 26th November. So roughly over 26 days, u would expect it to be widespread, and going at a rate of 2...u can see the severity. Just remember, u don't get urself tested until u start feeling the symptoms,

Apparently, the transmission rate of the new variant is 2...so for every one adult who catches the virus, it's passed on to 2 others .. so I do see travel restriction imposed with more countries added to avoid overwhelming the NHS...

On low volumes on the variant, we need larger sample to suggest if its effective. Because data is skewed... also many vaccinated people who are double jab and have the virus will just waver the symptoms as cold or flu believing they're protected from covid anyway so wouldn't get themselves tested where as unvacinated ones will be conscious of catching anything to be covid related and would take measures to get themselves checked... with that in mind, 35% unvacinnated in hospital is pretty high number

Do you believe in any articles coming out of South Africa? South Africa are upset the world has blocked them out of world travel. As soon as sajid imposed restrictions, South Africa turned around and said, it was a rush decision by uk government....then soon after SA said they expect the new variant to be in UK...now they're saying vaccine helps protect against severe illness....SA are just upset but the sudden change imposed by other countries

Bit of a bald statement if you ask me when major pharmas are still carrying out test lol its an attempted to push people to be vaccinated is all that government can do at this stage

Dutch health authorities said that 61 people who arrived in Amsterdam on two flights from South Africa on Friday tested positive for Covid-19, Reuters reports.

Authorities are conducting further testing to see if any of the infections are with the recently discovered Omicron coronavirus variant.

The thing is, the government like other variant called it variant of investigation or variant of concern before putting measures in. Why has this variant led to such harsh response. And not treated like others.

American markets and developing news possibly over the weekend. People in many other shares got caught out by the news last night, so some are holding for a bounce to get out, so although ftse has dropped, it's holding before I expect accelation of selling throughout ftse fuelled further by drop in American markets. I maybe wrong. Doesn't help its Friday aswell

Pounds dropped massively, new variant from Botswana, broker note is speculating and predicting. Information is nothing new to what the business has been doing. No new information on broker note but guess work. So this could go anywhere inho. Good luck who ever got my shares
