Yesterday at 15:44 you posted a message referring to a certain erstwhile correspondent on this BB.

Also yesterday somebody posted here that a company (LEAF) in which CA is invested had taken a 36% dive. At close it was 46% or thereabouts.

Finishing my hot chocolate before turning in I remembered this, so have just taken a look at LEAF, just out of curiousity. Yesterday was obviously carnage. But the BB is very interesting indeed, in that it contains just 12 posts! Yes, twelve. The first one being from October 2009. 33% (ie four) of those posts were written yesterday.

And guess who wrote the most recent one?

laidback, Not sure one can call today's nice blue finish weak! But I wouldn't be surprised by a slight retrace. Beware the 'sell on the news' mob. Let's face it, that's a drawback to everything being 'out in the open'. Because anyone can 'shipwatch', and it doesn't take a genius to figure out that the recompletions have been done. In very quick time and thus under budget, one may safely assume.

pijoe, I can assure you that personally I do not post on this BB to contrbute to a 'support group for nervous investors'. In fact I feel that if any investors here are 'nervous', they may be well advised to sell up (along with any other AIM listed O&G stocks they may hold), and put the money in a bank deposit account instead. It won't earn them much, but like that they can cut down on the valium, poor tortured souls.

Ricfle, writing on my phone so will be brief (for once). Wrt yr post of 16h10. No, I will not explain further. If you re-read my post to which you were responding, you'll see I gave a partial explanation. But you will see that I asked you why you were worried that 'premature depletion' may be a potential issue for the EPS. I would be genuinely interested to learn of your reasoning for such thoughts. If you choose not to respond it goes without saying that some people may suspect you of groundless scaremongering of course.

Why, for goodness' sake? So far as the EPS is concerned, it doesn't even enter into the equation. I cannot be bothered to explain why that is. But would be very interested to know the basis upon which you think early depletion is possible. Please note the word 'possible'. The EPS is going to extract a potential 37 million barrels over ten years from a 450+ million barrel reserve. Even if they crank those ESP's up to top speed 'til they're smoking, like you've suggested in the past, and tie in a maximum number of wells to the buoy, the EPS isn't going to make a dent in the overall oil in place, let alone deplete the field.

Yes, point taken. But again, there are quite a lot of people who would be more than happy with anything over a quid! Mind you, your 3-4 pound 'target' might actually happen by the end of next year, because that's when seemingly the company will start actually looking to 'monetise' the assets, so there could be real news about who they're talking with instead of just rumours.

So do I. But it fits a strange pattern we've seen here before. A sudden hike in the SP for no discernable reason, sudden chatter about T/O, sudden appearance of new or rarely-heard names on this BB.

Today's SP came to me as a surprise, as it probably did for many. I couldn't see how just one article about Chevron could cause this.

However, try this link. Normally The Times is subscription-only, but it might work. Otherwise google the headline 'Opportunity knocks in North Sea for Chevron. There's a great map, showing Rosebank, Clair, and ... the GLA/GWA. Plus Schehallion and Foinaven are marked as 'other'! Hurricane also gets a good mention at the bottom of the piece.

Must admit, that made me laugh! And OK, apology accepted.

Not sure about double standards, but I do tend to subscribe to the philosophy of Alice's White Queen who likes to believe six impossible things before breakfast.

And anyway, advokating picking up scuttlebutt from Aberdeen barroms of fictional traindrivers and taxi-jockeys does not represent double standards. That would only be the case if one published such rumours and represented them as truths. The same applies to rumours within the financial world. But as I live in neither Aberdeen nor London (nor the UK, come to that), I don't receive such juicy titbits anyway. Not at first hand, at least.

You are implying (accusing me) that I have some sort of 'inside information' and am writing about it here. I utterly deny and refute this. Posting 'inside information' on these BB's is not only against posting rules, but could also be a criminal offence under FCA reglementations.

I will not demand an apology from you for making such a libellous suggestion, because I suspect it will not be forthcoming, but will accept it if you post once more saying you have utterly no evidence on which to base your (erroneous) suspicions.

Because they are not true. And I do not like being publicly accused of criminal behaviour.

I've just remembered something.

We ought to get an RNS about recompletions. We also ought to get one when the 'mooring system' (ie the buoy) is installed. But then there's another 'milestone': installation of SURF. Ie the flowlines, and umbilicals connecting back to the buoy. Whether this will be done by the Normand Installer I haven't the foggiest. But another ship will be involved in the latter stages of SURF installation,as well. A FFP (flexible fall pipe) vessel.

Some members of the NOHSY (Noble Order of Hurricane Shipwatching Yeomanry) are quite clever at winkling out ship charter information. This'll be something to look out for. There aren't a million FFPV's around.

Odd which I still feel are wrong. However, as previously stated, I'm not keeping book on this, because I'm not a bookmaker. I suggest you give William Hill a call. They will give odds on just about anything. If they quote 25-1 on the FPSO being towed put down your tenner. If she travels under tow, expect to win 250 quid. If not, you lose your tenner. That's how these things work.

If anyone wants to make a personal bet, though, it'd be simply win or lose. My (sum X) versus yours. Winner takes the pot. But I wouldn't be talking tenners, nor shares, nor charities.

Yes and no. Clair incorporates Fractured Basement below the 'conventional' reservoir formations. These conventional formations (Devonian and Carboniferous sandstones) are themselves described as 'fractured', but the term is used in a different way than it is for 'basement'. Because they're sedimentary rocks, which are both porous and permeable unlike basement 'granites'. However they've been split up or factured by tectonic action, which leads to the field being 'compartmentalised' into distinct 'fault blocks'. Oil flow within these formations can be both 'conventional' (ie through the rock itself) and at the same time 'unconventional' (ie influenced by fracture and fault networks).

So to keep the terminology (relatively) simple, a FB reservoir is a 'Fractured Reservoir', but a Fractured Reservoir is not necessarily Fractured Basement.
