The latest Investing Matters Podcast with Jean Roche, Co-Manager of Schroder UK Mid Cap Investment Trust has just been released. Listen here.
Ricardo2019,
I won't (an annoyoing habit of mine) quote all your post. Nevertheless...
"I do understand why my view is going to annoy some people because it's hard to see something that was so promising go down in flames. My view hasn't changed yet but I do hope I turn out to be wrong. It wouldn't reverse my 95% loss but it would be nice to see the corporate barstewards get their comeuppance "
I'm sorry to hear you lost so much (I don't know how much, but 95% is bad, whatever your investment).
I'm also sorry if my own posts caused you any upset it wasn't intended in a personal way, but times are weird, and tempers sometimes get frayed.
In fact, I'm in agreement of a lot of what you have recently posted, except the 'going down in flames' bit. Which of course sounds a bit dramatic, and certainly not the sort of talk an oilman likes to think about!
But hang on, why not?
Part of this new 'proposal' from the company includes producing 'below bubble-point pressure'. Have these people gone out of their minds, or what?
OK, it's the weekend, market closed, and so on. I've ahad a chat with one or two people here about oilfield (rather than stockmarket) stuff. But I'd really like to hear others' views about increasing drawdon to that extent, Not just reservoir implications, but also potential ESP underload problems. It sounds like deliberate sabotage to me, but something a court judge is unlikely to understand.
mcader, slift, and the rest of your lane-horse buddies''
"Alternatives to the Restructuring Plan "
One nice alternative might have been to drill another well, or to tie-in Lincoln, instead of spending all the year drawing up ways of selling-out.
Saskia,
"Game on.."
Definitely correct there !
And I suspect there are a few people around who aren't going to take platitudes, excuses, talk about 'water-cut' etc., etc., as a way for the BoD to sell the Shareholders up the river.
brrr,
I'll tell you how.
Ok, the time included running casing. of course. But then primary cement. Ok, no prob. But the stage-collar was something that had been lying in an open-air warehouse in Gabon for about five years. 'Dropped the bomb', no probs either. But then, trying to get the collar to shear at recommended max 32000 psi, no dice. And of course we had primary cement above ! So decisions, decisions, on an open-air cement-unit, pouring rain, tree in the morning (as usual) in the rainforest. Fortunately I and the Cementer (a Gabonese bloke) were on good terms, and thought the same way, and knew what was at at stake and completely understood the downhole situation if we couldn't get the collar to shear.
So firt of all, we told all the rest of the crew to get well away, for their own safety. Then started to pressure-up to about 4000, which didn't work. So decided to 'bounce' the thing, a couple of times. OK, pouring rain, me and the cementer beginning to grin at each other even more ! It or us, both our lives (literally) and livelihoods on the line. The moth***ucker ancient old stage-coller finally sheared open at a frightening 4800 psi or so, but then we had to pump like crazy to get rid of the (already setting) upper remains of the first stage, sort ourselves out into some semblance of order, and then pump the second stage, which went like a dream.
Then write the report and flop into bed, refusing to answer the phone or anything. Subsequent report was 15 hours 'wait on cement' followed by assorted BoP manoevers which were supervised by the toolpusher.
It was an effin' long uncomfortable night. But one which I remember with a certain fondness, and pride. Not in a selfich way, neither. There was a lot of unspoken 'teamwork' involved, and it all worked out OK. Millions at stake, but that wasn't what was really in one's mind. Just 'get the job done right'.
Heid,
Wow! At last. Some oilfield talk. Yes, vaguely recall Cliff. But Cotton Seymour ? Great memories from back on the Ocean Kokuei. And of course his surname was ironic because he was a bit cross-eyed. Also utteraly illiterate, dictated the morning report to the rig clerk, and signed it with a sort of 'X'. Your absolute typical bone-ignorant coon**ss. oilman. Except he wasn't. First, he was a charming gentleman with a deep understanding of other people, could be stern at times when required, but helpful when he saw people needed guidance. Also, despite his linguistic problems, a totally 'innate' mathematician, and thus could sort out any sort of well-conrtol thing in an instant. Or what the compensator should be set at, weight on bit (advising the company-man rather than listening to him) and so on.
A lovely man (in retrospect) of the 'old school' and probably if I hadn't 'served my apprenticeship' in my early days on a rig run by people like him, I might never have 'made it up the ladder'.
Hey, bring on these oilfield 'chat-posts' here on this BB over the weekend! Like the old times. Who wnts to talk about the share price on a Sunday ?
NGR1616
OK, I'm fed up with this idle banter.
I've exchanged chat, technical discussion, oilfield bulls**t an all sort of similar stuff on this BB for years now. I think most people know where I'm coming from, even if some refuse to believe it, but that's their problem, not mine.
However, I smell a rat away, and we;re now getting 'statements' such as this.
"People like you are perpetuating the flip side of the scam you claim when it's clear the reservoir isn't viable. "
Would you like, please, pretty pretty please, to just explain to others on this board what our your professional oilfield qualifications for making such a statement?
Adrianuk,
"I just copied and pasted Adoubleuk's text on my youtube channel for HUR shareholders."
I suspect we're 'on the same side' here. Nevertheless, you should have asked me beforehand. Also I DO NOT get involved in 'social media' like that.
Please remove it.
NGR1616,
"Thing is, my conscience will only be clear if people exit this with some money. "
Noted. You've just posted where your morality (or possibly lack of it) and motives lie.
If your conscience will only be clear if some people make money, well that's your own problem, and I hope you sleep uneasily with it. Money is nice stuff to have, when one has some, but there also some more important things. One or two of those, other than friendship and love, being truthfulness and honesty, the last two qualities I fear you lack in.
I continue to hold my shares here, and will not take notice of your continual 'deramping'.
Nigwit.
"Big to pretend you work non stop for 32/72 hours is completely disingenuous unless he was taking ketamine at the same time which is of course in contravention of the drug and alcohol policies. He's a complete bull****ter."
Nope.
I recall the 32-hour stage-job in Gabon completely. Also, the end of it involved filing the 'morning report' A dam marathon. The 72-hour Thing in the Adriatic was absurd, but got got the job done. But I was younger then. If you know anyone on the Saipem 'Castoro Due' barge, they'll probably remamber that job.
NGR1616,
I have just re-read your 19:19 post, and my only conclusion is that that you cannot be anything other than a narrow-minded person, with no sense of fun, and probably very boring company indeed.
Yes, I am not tall, though wouldn't consider mu myself a 'small man'. also. yes I suffer from various syndromes, such as alcoholism, a propensity for sex and drugs and rock 'n roll, driving much faster than the speed limit, and card-playing.
But that's none of your business, it's mine.
You go on trashing this company if you want. But will your conscience be clear after you've finished telling your lies?
NGR1616
"so you did 72 hours non-stop for a rig move? Were you on your own? "
No, of course I wasn't, you twit.
It was moving Interterra's moduler offshore rig from platform 'Barbara F', 198something. Slept 15 hours straight afterwards,, in my cabin on on the barge taking us back to the yard at Ravenna.
No way I could do that now. But the mentality remains.
NGR1616,
"Me who made a profit here, still employed, married with children, non smoker, moderate drinker and not a gambler"
Well, what a cosy life.
Enjoy it.
NGR1616
"he has some issues."
(presumably referring to myself)
Yep, mate. you'd better believe it. Plenty of them. More than you've proably encountered in your life. You ever taken 32 hours nonstop doing a two-stage cement-job in the rain in Gabon? Or 72 hours nonstop for a platform -move in the Adriatic?
Nice memories.
You asked why I bought back in. To have 'skin in the game' once more, you idiot.
Slift,
"Aim Stocks Guru = Adoubleuk?"
Nice try. But absolutely no way !!!! :-)))
I'm just an aged old retiired oilman, poker-player, occasional freelance journalist, truck-racing fan, caver, boozer, cigarette-addicted, womanizer, etc.
AIM-stocks guru stuff to the kiddies.

" looks like shareholder action is now starting to gain decent momentum here both with the FCA and in the Courts, with media/politicians as next steps; HUR incompetent incredibly corrupt BoD’s arrogance with it’s shareholders and company assets (which they have been handsomely paid to look after, and with same board Chairman now in place for over 3 years!) is now way too obvious to go unnoticed, GLA."
Yes.
Please keep up the pressure in all directions.
This is NOT the same as something like SXX, a very speculatory venture (though admittedly interesting idea) but with no production, and which found itself out of money to get even close to production.
Hurricane is PRODUCING, selling via BP at profit, but proposing to now hang their shareholders out to dry for the benefit of some creditors (who've already presumably already reaped their interest), and claiming themselves 'potentially insolvent'. Well, s**t, yeah I too could proclaim myself 'potentially insolvent' tomorrow. In fact I probably am. But should that occur, I wouldn't be drawing salary.
A SCANDAL. A SCAM.
Ricardo2019
"I'll put it another way - the BoD don't have enough skin in the game - i.e. shares or options. That's the lack of alignment I was pointing to."
OK. On that point I in fact entirely agree with you, and is something I find disturbing, suspicious, and intuitionally wrong.
If some of my messages here have offended you, I apologise. They weren't intended personally, it's just that when I start banging away on the keyboard, I'm replying to the message, not the messanger.
Except in a few cases where I'd like to see pistols at dawn. Except I'd be carrying a machine-gun.
Slift,
"But just remember this from me: It's 0% or 5%. Fight for 0% if you want."
Stupid, stupid, stupid.
You an' your buddies can go dick around with your 5% as much as you like, 'til the cows come home. When it comes down to those percentages I'm just leaning back, maybe taking a drink, and just fooling about to see what happens.
In fact, that's exactly what I'm doing, having bought back in here. Plus 5%, minus 10%, back up 7% ? Meaningless.
Back up 150% and I might start taking notice.
This is a share which was once at 60p. Right now it's around 0.75p. Meanwhile there's a big boat West of Shetland drawing in around 10,500 barrels of oil per day into its tanks, selling it on via BP, and that's an 'insolvent company' ?
No, what the BoD is proposing is selling the Shetland oilfields as Scotland's biggest Chinese Takeaway. But they won't get away with it. :-))
Slift,
Can't understand your latest post. But surely, you can't have been laundry-boy on the Ocean Kokuie in 1979, who we called 'Mouse'. Or were you ?
anne37,
"Just a final point from me, which I nearly posted a few days ago, but then had second thoughts, as I really have to be careful what I say "
Understood, for whatever reasons you may have. But please don't let it be a 'final point'. Your post was very informative and helpful. Keep up the good work, if possible !
xxxxxx
Jordiboy,
"I have read your posts with interest over the past few years . I have read your 12:21 post and felt compelled to post in reply. I was working on the Ocean Bounty, 1st or second trip as a lowly 'galley rat' when the Ocean Ranger went down, a very sombre time and atmosphere.... I have lost out relatively substantially here having been a believer and having a high average, naively thinking things would improve. I don't doubt your credentials."
That's a touching post, for which I thank you. Because it's possible that you and I have actually met, because I too was working on the Ocean Bounty for a while.
Nothing wrong with having been a 'galley rat'. You guys kept we roughnecks going.
All the best, and let's hope we can win this fight.
