Overall this is absolutely excellent news. Any residual worries that anyone had about it being non-economic can be binned. The narrative provided by the directors is genuinely exciting and this places us at the forefront of global mining developments. I won't deny it, I'm genuinely delighted and we can all breath a sigh of relief. We own something pretty damn important and it's time the market woke up to the fact.

rcgl, I think your comment about digestibility is accurate, and this may explain why the company felt it necessary to stage an investor presentation after the release.

Bozi, as for the 'pleased' usage, I guess we've all seen announcements where a company says they are 'pleased', when in fact the news is a heap of stinking effluent.
My view is that DC is a straightforward bloke (based upon the limited exposure he's had so far) and he wouldn't use the word flippantly.
I think the other reason for my apprehension is that this investment now represents a very large chunk of cash for me and, being a retired bloke, it's become rather important.

Bozi, that's the problem I don't have a specific concern. I suppose it's simply based upon experience of companies failing to deliver. That is not to say I expect it this time!

No matter how much I rationalize matters, I can't help but have a residual concern about tomorrow's news, and this is despite the positive PR that's emerged recently. For example, why would the company herald the upcoming announcement by saying it is 'pleased' to inform us of its impending release? Why would DC tell us about the positive impact the appointment of the consultants has had? Surely the company must be happy with the outcome? Surely, if the result was disappointing they wouldn't tell us they're 'pleased'? But, by the same token we have been forewarned that the NPV will be lower than previously suggested. Will people take fright? Or is this already priced in? Would they actually have bothered to forewarn us of the release date if it was rubbish?
We haven't got long to wait, but never have I felt this way about a previous investment.

Monte, I have no idea how the sp will react, but I know I'm feeling a combination of excitement, eager anticipation and a degree of apprehension.
It's been a very long wait and it had better be worth it!

a bit of a disappointing end to what has been a great couple of weeks. Next week is a big deal for us and it's going to fascinating to see how it's all going to play out.

JML, yes, I understood your point, but would point out that the market was not happy with the previous high costs and I'm sure the focus has been to drive them down. Of course, higher input costs will not have helped the case, but I fear we'll get plenty of flack if they haven't achieved significant savings.

JML, you make a fair point about capex, but I'm assuming that the employment of several consultancies whose task was to optimize capex and mining techniques will bear fruit. If it doesn't we'd appear to have wasted our money.

JML, the IRR should be positively affected by the lower capex, but most significantly by the higher assumed commodity prices...at least I hope so!

I'm going for 3.25bn. But I expect to see a much improved IRR.

SM, really interesting find and a very cryptic observation from DC.

RK, at a guess I'd say about 20 and 30 or so private company deals. I spent half my career in corporate finance.

RK, you've been around the block a few times and I'm sure you understand the strength of their position. Sure, they're not home and dry, but they are most certainly well ahead.

Rich, agreed, we may well see something completely unexpected emerge and provided it's good for us I'm all in favour. I have no wish to see BHP have it all their own way - far from it, but I do understand the dynamics of corporate finance and, as it stands, they're in pole position.
Anyway, it's great to see us hang on to 40p today and hopefully the momentum will continue tomorrow.
Separately, there must be a few people on here who have now bagged? I'm damn close, but a few buys in the late twenties some time ago pushed my average up.
