Yep we have Block VII 2D, previous operator acquired 466 km 2D seismic data and drilled EG-1 well which was junked at c. 2350m due to their well collapsed. Data under evaluation but the seismic identified very large lead, across the border in China they have had some chunky oil finds and TMK who have had big gas finds are in the adjacent Mongolian block.

We now know that Mongolian oil reservoirs are low pressure so why do we need horizontal wells.

Horizontal wells are better for low-pressure reservoirs because they create much more contact with the reservoir and spread inflow (oil seeping in pipework) over a long distance.

This reduces the pressure drop at any single point, allows the formation to deliver fluids more easily, delays water/gas breakthrough, and makes stimulation more effective.

In short:

Horizontal wells produce more efficiently from weak or depleted reservoirs because they lower flow resistance and maximize reservoir exposure.

5 vertical wells in Mongolia might deliver 1000 bopd.

5 Horizontal wells might deliver 5000 bopd.

Another plus we should keep in mind, if we end up with a Chinese farm in partner we can rest assured all drilling work will be done right, even if its an Indian partner that initially uses DQE rest assured they will have boots on the ground to ensure DQE are performing as expected, win win.

Now that an initial proposal has been received its reasonable to think things might speed up, the 2 parties on the sidelines will not want left behind so i would expect firm news about their interest to be announced sooner rather than later.
