I hope LTI is right in their being a chain of command that would not support such a decision. But Putin is a tyrant and history shows us that people will follow orders when they are in fear of reprisals. Even if he just looks at Ukraine for the sake of the commodities what use is the bread basket of Europe if it's contaminated with radiation?
But I do not feel assured there is restraint around Putin. And an invasion motivated by pride is very likely to end in desperation when it unravels.

The Ukrainian pilots know how to fly Mig jets, they have already trained. Not much else would be any use to them, so Im pleased to hear Poland may do this.
I think Putin would be much readier to use chemical weapons for smaller scale concentrated local effect, than to go near a nuclear response. There is nothing to gain from the biggest red button, he knows that as well as we do.

Sad to say Im pretty sure he's going to go down fighting. And then be sainted by Ukraine.
Best hope is Putin is overthrown by his own people. I don't think the west will do anything except watch.
