LONDON (Alliance News) - easyJet PLC said Wednesday that it has submitted a revised expression of interest for a restructured Alitalia, Italy's national airline.
The submission, which is in response to the new government's ongoing sales process, is consistent with easyJet's existing strategy for Italy, the British budget airline operator said in a short statement, adding that the specific details of its "expression of interest" is subject to confidentiality.
"There is no certainty at this stage that any transaction will proceed and easyJet will provide a further update in due course, if and when appropriate," the company said.
On Tuesday, Italy's state-owned railway group Ferrovie dello Stato said it would make an offer to take over bankrupt Alitalia.
Alitalia went into government-controlled administration last year and was kept afloat by Italian state loans worth EUR900 million. The Italian government is supposed to recoup that money by December 15 and wrap up bankruptcy procedures by finding a buyer for the airline by Wednesday.
Shares in easyJet closed at 1,200.00 pence each on Wednesday, up 1.9%.
