Synectics wins video surveillance contract with Iarnrod Eireann

Tue, 17th Nov 2020 11:59
(Sharecast News) - Security and surveillance technology company Synectics has signed a €1.3m contract with the Republic of Ireland state railway operator Iarnród Éireann, to upgrade all mark-4 InterCity rolling stock on the Dublin to Cork route to an IP-based video surveillance system.
The AIM-traded firm said it was chosen following a competitive bid process.

It said the contract would see Synectics develop and install a safety-critical IP video surveillance system, that would enable full connectivity from trains to the engineering depot and other operational locations.

Installation was expected to begin in September 2021, to be followed by an additional support contract to provide a five-year in-territory maintenance programme.

"We are delighted that Irish Rail has chosen our IP video technology to upgrade the surveillance and security provision on one of their premier InterCity routes," said chief executive officer Paul Webb.

"This contract represents the first step into on-vehicle heavy-rail solutions for our Synectics Security business, building on their experience and strong track record across light-rail, underground and tram markets.

"Irish Rail is our second public transport win in Ireland over the last few months and reflects our growing reputation for smart technology developments that meet next-generation operator requirements."

At 1130 GMT, shares in Synectics were up 12.41% at 101.18p. Synectics
