Thu, 21st Jan 2021 12:51

(Alliance News) - BT Group PLC on Thursday said it had signed a new EUR33 million communication services contract with the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The contract is focused on connecting the Dutch government to its embassies and consulates in 120 countries and is worth EUR33 million for its initial four-year period, with the possibility of an extension to up to nine years total.

London-based FTSE 100 telecommunications company BT won a public, EU-wide tender and said the new network services are to "form the foundation for the ministry's digital transformation journey" with users benefitting from secure access to cloud services as well as data,

Joris van Oers, managing director for Europe at BT, said: "I am really proud that the Dutch government has put their trust in us to connect their embassies and consulates around the world. We can build on many years of experience serving public sector customers such as EU institutions and governments in many countries, and we are happy to support the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on their journey into a more digital future."

Shares in BT were down 1.3% at 136.25 pence in London on Thursday.
