(Alliance News) - Quadrise PLC on Thursday announced a joint development agreement with BTG Bioliquids BV to use fast pyrolysis bio-oil technolgy as a cost-effective and renewable fuel source in its bioMSAR solution.
Quadrise is a London-based innovator and licensor of residual oil technology, which produces a synthetic heavy fuel oil called MSAR. BTG Bioliquids is an Enschede, Netherlands-based fast pyrolysis technology provider.
Under the agreement, Quadrise and BTG Bioliquids will collaborate on a research programme to generate bioMSAR emulsions using BTG Bioliquids's FPBO technology. Successful formulations will be generated at Quadrise's research facility, and will be progressed to diesel engine tests over the next 12 months.
Quadrise said there is a potential for third-party testing for marine use to take place, which would accelerate the development of bioMSAR Zero.
FPBO is a homogenous energy carrier made from agricultural and forestry residues and is used as a substitute for fossil fuels.
Quadrise Chief Executive Officer Jason Miles said: "Advanced biofuels derived from woody biomass remain potentially the most price competitive net-zero biofuel solutions. This joint collaboration fits well with our plans to commercialise bioMSAR with MSC Shipmanagement and others, as well as advancing our programme to supply net-zero bioMSAR by 2030.
"BTG Bioliquids's fast pyrolysis bio-oils combined with Quadrise's bioMSAR technology should provide a compelling solution for the marine sector to accelerate decarbonisation and emissions reduction efforts economically and safely."
Shares in Quadrise were up 6.9% at 1.07 pence each in London on Thursday morning.
