Quantum Blockchain files UK patent application for AI Oracle

Wed, 15th Jan 2025 14:46

(Alliance News) - Quantum Blockchain Technologies PLC on Wednesday confirmed a filing of a patent application covering its efficiency focused tool designed to optimise bitcoin mining hardware.

Quantum Blockchain is an AIM-listed investment firm focused on technology investments, especially with relation to blockchain, cryptocurrencies, quantum computing and AI sectors.

The patent is titled "Implementation of Binary Decision Trees", and describes the details of an efficient hardware implementation of the AI Oracle on an ASIC chip.

Quantum Blockchain said it has developed a field-programme gate array version of the AI Oracle implementation, with the power performance results presenting an insight into the overheads of the solution when implemented on custom silicon for bitcoin mining.

Quantum said it has determined the area required by AI Oracle implementation is between 1% and 4% of a double SHA-256 lane, "the basic computational block of almost all ASIC chips for bitcoin mining", with the same percentage applying to energy consumption also.

Quantum Blockchain noted that the "figures represent an almost irrelevant overhead when compared to the double SHA-256 percentage of avoided computations, determined by the AI Oracle."

Shares in Quantum Blockchain fell 1.9% to 0.74 pence on Wednesday afternoon in London.

Executive Chair & Chief Executive Francesco Gardin said: "The key requirements included in the specification of the on-chip implementation of the AI Oracle, are the limited area to be used, the low energy consumption and the processing speed. We have determined that the AI Oracle will not affect the performance of any given SHA-256 architecture of an ASIC chip.

"All three requirements have been met by our FPGA/ASIC design team. This has been an outstanding result for the team and QBT. Moreover, the AI Oracle implementation overhead between approximately 1% and 4% of a double SHA-256 lane, is an extremely impressive result."
