Plant Health Care's Teikko approved for use in Brazil

Tue, 02nd Jan 2024 10:55

(Alliance News) - Plant Health Care PLC on Tuesday said its nematicide product, Teikko, has been approved in Brazil.

The approval comes just in time for the 2024/2025 soybean growing season, the Manchester-based maker of biological products for agriculture said.

Teikko, or PHC68949, is a seed treatment designed to control harmful nematodes in soybean fields. It is expected to be registered in Brazil before the end of the year.

It is based on the company's Pretec technonolgy platform, which "stimulates plant defense and pathogen resistance mechanisms within plants, resulting in improved crop growth and quality along with the ability to withstand a variety of abiotic stresses."

Plant Health Care is currently in discussions with potential distributors for the launch of Teikko this year.

Chief Executive Officer Jeff Tweedy said: "Teikko will help Brazilian farmers sustainably produce their soybean crops and supports the company's vision to be a leading global provider of alternatives to conventional agrochemicals. Unlike Teikko current soil fumigants and other chemical nematicides are known to have damaging off-target effects. Teikko is an environmentally friendly biological alternative that performs as well as or better than those older technologies and we expect to see rapid adoption amongst Brazilian farmers."

Shares in Plant Health Care rose 2.4% to 3.78 pence each in London on Tuesday morning.
