As Footsie slides below 5,000 it is the banks that are leading it downwards. Lloyds Banking, RBS and Standard Chartered are the worst performing banks. Brewer SABMiller is another of the major losers after yesterday's results and share sales by directors. Chief executive Graham MacKay raised £103,000 and finance director Malcolm Wyman raised £62,000. That is the second time they have sold shares in two months. The biggest seller was non-executive director Miles Morland who generated £771,000 from the sale of all of his shares in the brewer. BP is also in decline because of worries that it has underestimated the extent of the leak in its Gulf of Mexico field.Mining companies are recovering after their falls in recent days. Improving metals prices helped Xstrata, Fresnillo and BHP Billiton. Yesterday's £400,000 share investment by chief executive Simon Wolfson has boosted retailer Next.
